A dangerous intellectual shares his concern

But I don't think he has anything to worry about! :D
With all the red lights flashing at the state of the UK’s democracy, I’ve seen it said we shouldn’t assume the next general election will even happen. The issue, though, isn’t whether an election will happen (it will). It’s whether it will be free and fair (it won’t).

Not meant as a point-scoring, smug, response. But when I gave up, I cut down, then stopped. Had a few, maybe half a dozen, over the next week or two - then never again. I really don't think I could have kept going for that first year had I gone down the vaping route. (Not that it was available then.)

Many years before, I had tried gum, and that was horrible.
My father cured me of smoking with a few well chosen words
Back then he smoked himself and I was then in my late teens and used to pick up cigarettes for him from the local shop.
"Would you like me to get your cigarettes dad?" on that fateful day.
"No thank's lad I've decided to give them up"
I make the mistake of laughing.
"You may laugh, but you lack enough will power" said Father in annoyance.
"Are you challenging me, Father?"
"Indeed!" and with that he turned back to his paper.
We watched each other for months, neither gave in and after a year or so had a good laugh, each thinking the other had won.
I still have the sneaking feeling he'd conned me into it.
He was far more capable of that than I will ever be!
Father was a true Bell 100% the one thing he never passed on to me unfortunately, was women doted on him, even in his old age.
Happy memories, still miss him.

perhaps like America Post trump we have a great deal to realise about ourselves. our mediocrity, stupidity, bigotry. post brexit winning an election is one thing, as we're discovering with boris and covid, being able to govern (as will become increasingly compelling) is quite another

yes, it's been twenty years since I quit and the other day (after a murderous row with oh) I thought I could kill for a nice short fat Gauloises
Caporal were even worse than Gauloises
The best cigarettes for me were Balkan Sobrani but you needed an empty room or to be outdoors

I note:

The UK health minister, Savid Javid, also came under pressure on Sky News to say whether the government would implement stronger restrictions, in line with what experts have been recommending.

Parliament would be recalled if this was necessary, he said.

Can anyone else see the nonsense of forcing MPs to travel the length of the country, as well as supporting staff of all sorts, in order to crowd into a chamber that isn't large enough, potentially then to crowd even more densely into division lobbies which are even less large enough. And all this to try to stop people being too close to each other and thereby passing on Covid.

I have a sneaking suspicion that the HoC didn't look five minutes into the future and make plans for hybrid or remote operating to be re-established, plans which can readily be invoked, if needed.

Thought for the day

Merry Christmas Soundwave ;)
if it is that good why do you need more every 3 months and it is not a vaccine it is a treatment because it does not stop getting it or transmitting it or it killing you.

and im still not dead :p

In order to protect mRNA molecules from the body’s natural defenses, drug developers must wrap them in a protective casing. For Moderna, that meant putting its Crigler-Najjar therapy in nanoparticles made of lipids. And for its chemists, those nanoparticles created a daunting challenge: Dose too little, and you don’t get enough enzyme to affect the disease; dose too much, and the drug is too toxic for patients.

time for another booster jab to boost the booster :p
