Lets start with culling. .. If the vulnerable people are already dead, there are less vulnerable people. ,
That is an incredibly silly reply when we know that Covid-19 affects so few. The numbers killed are far too few to both reverse London's intrinsic likelyhood of far more deaths and even reduce them.

Over the entire Covid two years, 0.17% of the population suffering Covid death.

Death rates in both the whole of London and by boroughs lower by larger margins than the national figures, when of course in London's circumstances, we might expect them to be much higher.

I think Formula E could be greatly improved. Give them a few basic parameters, length, width , height tyres & weight. No limit on power, but a battery change or recharge, if needed, must be just that, no swapping cars. 200 miles of racing. Could be fun.
No, we should stick to known and well understood rules.

250 watts and no power when pedalling stops. ;)

Sinclair nearly got there with the C5.

If they play sound track from V10 days they might get some to go... As it is its utterly characterless. The smell, sound and even vibration of F1, even today, is part of experience.
Been to a few mixed MX races, where electric bikes are allowed.. Honestly JC. Its flat, even when they are winning.. (which they can now)
Drop in fuels and going backwards with technology is answer..
Ban batteries. Just one engine, minimum weights/sizes. 100 litres of fuel for 150 miles race. Do what you want. Any ICE. Any size, any layout.. 2 stroke/4 stroke/rotary/Miller...
Porsche are already making carbon neutral drop in fuels.. Loads of the stuff..

Mostly, that’s nostalgia. I’m the same with 2 stroke, I love the sounds and smells from karting as a kid.

We’ve just got to get used to the silent and odourless future.

Indeed, electric car racing will never be entertaining or popular.

Imagine the Touring Car racing scene when they are all electric only. Nobody would watch.

Our generation might think like this but a lot of young people don't. I was reading on a financial forum recently that a chap had asked his 15 year old son if money was no object what car would he like as his first one. The son answered a Tesla, I asked the same question to my 13 year old grandson he replied a Tesla too.

When I was their age and someone had asked me that type of question my answer would have been something like a Porsche or a Ferrari.

I was watching a Youtube motorcycle vlogger the other day, he was reviewing a top of the range Ducati Street Fighter V4S these things are gorgeous bikes around £25 to £30k, I would love one.

He was passing a high school just as they kids were coming out on their way home and he passed a load of lads probably aged around 15 or 16, not one of them paid him the slightest bit of attention. He even commented on this and said how kids had changed, years ago the lads would have been shouting and pointing at the bike, nowadays they don't even notice it. He went on to say if he had been driving past in a top of the range Tesla they all would have noticed.

My grandson often points out Tesla cars to me, I don't even notice them I think they look very plain and dull but he notices them straight away. In 30 or so years time the IC engine will be a very niche item with just a few older people interested in them and the odd young person who other youngsters will think eccentric.

Covid affects only a few?. .. Well yes since we have only had 250 million confirmed cases out of a potential market of 8000 million . But it has killed 5.3 million of those. .. but hey it's early days yet. So it has declined down to a kill rate of 2.2%.from the 3% I have been using up to now , probably because a number of these confirmed cases how are breakthrough infections of known vaccinated people, and they have a reduced mortality.

Yes culling... Its a simple process. The weak, those with heart conditions, the overweight, the diabetes , the elderly , the lung complications , the cancers will succumb quicker than the others . It then takes a long while to replenish the stocks of the vunerable , but time is a great leveller. In your analysis did you factor in the diets of Londoners versus the NW of UK, ? the age profiles?

You are right with Tesla thing. My grand son is same... Not sure about the racing tho... Personally never liked 2 stroke noise but the blue haze they left behind was bewildering...
Time will tell.. Going to a race meeting and not hearing noise would be like going to a concert and wearing ear defenders.. Perhaps sim racing will take over..
Formula E hasn't attracted big crowds... Yet... Would they dare race with simulated noise for the old petrol heads.. Quite a few road cars have noise supplemented through speakers... Which always amazes me... But some seem to like it..

Lewis to get his 8th next year?

5.3 million reported cases? I, d guess millions more actual..? How many have covid asymptotic or don't report illness?? Actual death rate a lot lower than your reported figure Danidl???

How many times must I say I'm not looking at the world, just my city and my country.

And as I've just posted, 1.7% kill rate, not your 3% or 2.2% but much lower.

And as for all the local factors such as diet and age, they can be self cancelling as well as additive, especially in such a huge sample over a wide area. The wrong assumption that Londoners are much younger often amuses me. In reality many of the apparently much younger have commuted into their work in London from far away. London has a far larger elderly population than is often realised, firmly esconced in their owned homes from their earnings in the good times, just like me.

we don't know how many have had covid without reporting though.
Death rates this year is a quarter of last year same time. I think hospital admissions is a better yardstick.
The way to deal with covid in the future is going to be taking one antiviral tablet after you have a positive test.

I am more and more inclined to think if it's not man made, it's going to be maintained indefinitely by industry and those with a mission in one form or another.

Bloomin' obvious, wasn't it?

Downing Street Christmas party had been planned for weeks

Secret Santa was a giveaway - if it had been spontaneous about all they could have done is raid the stationery cupboard and give each other hole punches, rubber bands, and Tippex.

jHC... How do I put this politely ... I suspect you are incompetent to do anything approaching research on this topic. As am I and everyone else on this forum .
Well, now I've never let incompetence stop me in the past, and it's too late to start now.
After all if I prove utterly useless at everything I can always put that on a CV, join the Tory party and offer myself as the next prime minister

This report suggests actually infected are 10 times more than reported. In some respects that's good. (chance of dying post infection much less) In other ways it's far worse. (if you must avoid infection)
I came to conclusion weeks ago we have all been in contact with Covid by now..?

The problem isn't forming your own opinions from what any of us call research its the likely event that that "research" is influencing others.
Seems anti vaxxers come in groups, influencing each other. Daughter knows a whole fire crew (8) who are all refusing vaccines.. I, ll bet one of that group is the "researcher" . Rest followers.
And, again I don't know who is right. Danidl or JHC....
Both correct.
And, I suspect many of us make our decisions then conduct research where we think applicable to justify our own stance..???
Well done, that last sentence is essentially what scientists do.

The data I quote is Covid worldometers based on the John Hopkins data. I have no idea , and moreover nobody else has the data for the extremely mild , ...the asymptomatic.. but really it doesn't matter unless they confer a specific amount of immunity. If you recall earlier discussions were whether there was any immunity of any duration obtained without a serious immune response ,raised temperature, bed illness , even if not requiring hospital. In truth we have no idea what the actual death rates in many African countries are, how many are attributed to other causes

Maybe ... It might not be getting infected and shrugging off a minor infection that matters or conveys any immunity, but getting a heavier dose which elicits a full immune response.

Agreed but if you quote a death rate you must know the total infected for figure to have any validity.
Bit like saying the only person you knew to have had flu died from it... So death rate is 100%.??
I do think tho that death rate is so personal in most cases its hardly worth quoting.
It boils down to an individuals chance of dying and not so many from a theoretical (healthy) 100.
I, ve got a few underlying issues so question should be how many in my circumstances would die out of the 100...and really nobody knows.
