It's only an opinion poll, of course...

Labour races to nine-point lead in polls in wake of sleaze controversies at No 10
Labour has its biggest lead since 2014 while a large majority of voters now think Johnson should resign
Wait till shy Tories reveal themselves at election time! You'll see a swing of 5 to 10 points! It's weird, this shy Tory phenomenon. What are they ashamed of anyway, specifically?

There are pessimists and optimists. You and Jonathan are decidely pessimists, I'm an optimist. We can find websites to suit what we are. The link you've given perhaps suits you, but is it accurate and truthful? The answer is probably no.

Look at the figures below for vaccinations. The first number in each line is the Guardian's, the second the government's official website number, all for UK over 12 years old vaccinated at 11th December:

Ist dose: 76.4%, 89.1%

2nd dose: 69.8%, 81.2%

3rd dose: 33.7%, 39.3%

Those are not minor differences. Why? The Guardian has deliberately and dishonestly used the total UK population instead of those from 12 upwards who can receive a vaccination. Presumably because they want to make things look worse than they really are, the pessimists view.

Optimists are easy to spot, just look under the unvaccinated column in the tally of the dead.

With respect flecc.. They are both measuring and intending to measure different things. The Government data is examining their performance against a target they set. A very reasonable and laudable management tool. The Guardian is measuring the size of the problem. If it were physically impossible for the under 12 to contract the disease ,then the Guardian would be scaremongering.

There was a fascinating piece in yesterday's Irish Time's by Fintin O 'Toole . His point was that the Government is making a serious mistake in thinking that the antivaxx brigade are all of a similar mindset and he categorises them into 3 utterly separate tents.
1. Egotists , who believe in the body pure .. particularly their own , see Yoga as a religion of the righteous, which they are part of ,and only the impure of body or mind will get ill.
2. The Paranoid... Who see everything as a conspiracy.
3. The Fascists ... Who just hate, and see #1,#2 as useful idiots . Basically bullies, who don't care what the cause is only that they can lead it.

His strategy is that the Government message should be different to all three..
1. To the egoists saying they are wring is counterproductive, what you say is this vaccine is just like one of those other food supplements which helps your body stay in perfect condition.
2. The Paranoids need to be listened to because they are constantly in fear, and need to be shown that there is indeed a conspiracy, but its by the fascists.
3. The Fascists cannot be argued with, because they really don't care about the argument..its just another cause. But by robbing them of the egotists and the paranoid, ..they lose.

Absolutely not, numbers vaccinated does not represent the size of the problem so your premise is defective.

A valid percentage is of those vaccinated who can be.

Including those whose cannot have been vaccinated is wilfully dishonest, since it is a percentage including those who cannot exist under the rules and is therefore meaningless. One might as well have included all those who died from Covid in this vaccines year, since they cannot be vaccinated either.

Not true.

Those who believe the vaccines are excellent so get them all are optimists.

Those who think the vaccines are BS are pessimists.

Wrong answer
I was pessimistic enough to think myself vulnerable to catching the virus, hence having the vaccine
Optimists are those who imagine it cant mutate into something worse

Nah. As Jonathan says, we are all both to various degrees.

I'm an optimist with Covid, it's something only other people suffer from.

Since the statisticians say I'm over 97% right, my optimism is justified.

Flecc.. in this one you must know you are being irascible. The dead cannot possibly get infective, and will not be occupying hospital beds, the sub 12 year olds might, can and do. Whether the Guardian is being mischievous is an interpretation you could advance... But remember we in Ireland have authorised use above 5 yrs , and that is within the UKs Establishment authority also, they make the rules.

There are also some who have an existing condition. (Not talking about those with conditions which are recognized as contraindicating a Covid vaccine.) When they see many others who suffer the same pre-existing condition then have significant reactions to vaccines, it makes them wonder if they should go ahead. Despite wanting protection, both for themselves and for the population as a whole.

My objection is valid, I'm not being irrascible. The government's figures give us the proportion of those who have been vaccinated, those left who can be under the rules, and over time intervals via age bands completing vaccination, the refusenicks by age groups. Good work by the civil service.

The Guardian's figures only give the proportion of the population vaccinated, jumbling up all the rest so of minimal use in knowing what is going on.

Johnson is going to speak to us at 20:00 today, so I have read.

I guess it will be to do with Covid - rather than a resignation.

Oyster, there must be a certain fraction of the population who cannot for valid medical reasons be vaccinated. However ,I have no idea what those conditions are, and why they cannot be vaccinated. However it must be very possible for the appropriate authorities to flag up this cohort and list it in the official data. Unless they have been informed by the competent medical consultant, they are self diagnosing, and are actually in the egotist grouping.

It seems it's just a repeat of what Nadim Zahawi was saying on Marr this morning. More urging to get the third dose and panicking about Omicron.

But no more restrictions to be announced.
