Number 10 Downing Street issued a statement prior to the referendum which went something like this: We will ask the people of the UK to vote on a single question. Do they want the UK to remain in the EU or do they want to leave. We will then carry out their choice.

That doesn't sound very advisory to me and it leaves little room for manoeuvre or twisting of the truth.

Where were remain at this point in time saying to the government, hang on, you can't say this, the process is only advisory? Of course, they were silent on this issue because, (1) they thought that remain was in the bag, and (2) they were not even aware of the advisory status thing.

After wiping the egg from their faces, advisory is something which has been researched, discovered and then seized upon by remain after the main event. It's little more than sad desperation.
Sorry tillson Davis is the one who committed the original sin on this one and you can't deny it can you?

Why do you persist with this one? the evidence is not debatable
Davis is the author of the bill
The referendum is advisory only
He chose not to convey that fact deliberately at a time when no member of the Public knew of the nature of the Bill.
Otherwise Parliament would never have voted to accept it.
Are you now saying they would have accepted a Mandatory Referendum?

There you have it: there was a Marginal victory for a leave vote that the Government does not legally have to implement.
Case closed; "get over it"
Can't wait for article 50 and Brexodus.. the journey into the wilderness to begin

Unfortunately we are in an age where any idiot can deny any fact and shout down people defending the truth with "alternative fact". One of those idiots is in the White House others may be at large...

Ah yeah....but!

Tom:D
Davis committed the first lie in not revealing the nature of the Referendum
Cameron Committed the second and greater lie that he would honour the result.
Then Farage, Boris, and Gove fled the field with him when the scam went wrong, and they thought they might have to make something they knew nothing whatever about, actually happen, and might catch some Flak over didn't they?
After they had conned the public into thinking it was a easy as pie!
And despite all the evidence, the majority of the public can't face the fact that they've been well and truly had.

Sorry, i'm having another attack of hysterical laughter at the futility of it all!o_O

OG, the ball is with the MPs now.

It now seems that it's possible that brexiters may have their cake and eat it.

The European trade commissioner Cecilia Malmström has told MEPs that she also believes that a deal can be agreed more quickly than the protracted talks with Canada.

You have missed my point entirely, trade and the economy is a far smaller problem than the social damage that will be done by Tory policies
Having a successful economy will only cement them more firmly in place.

And of course since we already have the best trade deal we will ever have with the EU, only an idiot would leave and have to negotiate a worse one.

Advisory was clearly stated in the regs of the referendum,if we didn't read it that's our problem. May is struggling to keep the Leaver MP,s locked away, she has shown how nasty she can be when Tory rebels go against her wishes.
But at some point those MP's will get bolder and join with the SNP,Liberals and Labour to direct us towards a sensible Brexit,if at all.
She should release the white paper before the MP's have a vote on triggering Article 50,I wonder whether any MP will introduce that as an amendment.

Yes, I know what you mean and it is infectious!:D

Sadly, the simpletons must enjoy being lied to by men in suits as they seem to require more and more of it in order to sustain their fascist beliefs against all the evidence.

Anyone with enough patience can read through the attached material as there is a slight possibility they might glean some understanding of why there has been such an upsurge of fascism in several countries. It is both worrying and amusing in equal part.

We'll know the outcome at the next general election. Why are you convinced that the tories will retain power if the majority is in fact against brexit?

Lets just hope the MPs have the balls to give correct answer , for right reasons, and country is sensible enough to accept it.
If Brexit is dropped it will be a disappointment after all the BS dreams and nonsense we have been exposed to,
Rather like watching Stock Car racing without the crashes......

Well despite Cameron being caught lying on Camera over tax credits the public still elected them the last time, so a precedent was established.

Suits the circumstances methinks.

Don't you want to see the tories fall on their own sword?
TBH, I am less worried about brexit than having another tory term.

Because Corbyn is not an effective opposition and will not be by the next general election. I was amused that he says he is not a communist but insists wearing a Lenin style hat at every opportunity.
May is cleverly not letting parliament or the people having a vote on what Brexit looks like now,she is adamant that we won't have a second referendum.....I am certain that Leavers would lose that.
For her it's about priorities, she prioritises immigration control and leaving the ECJ even if our economy is destroyed to achieve that....in that sentence is why I am so anti Theresa May.
