The European Union
One could say that the EU regional development fund is foreign aid coming to disadvantaged regions of the UK (as you seem to consider the EU as foreign...).

As for the water, I'm surprised it's only 7 times.
The Thames Water company area is so large that much of the water it supplies is from deep wells. Mine comes from the Addington Deep Well only half a mile down the road, pumping water from the North Downs since the 1800s.

When I first moved here it still used the original Cornish beam engines and coal fired Lancashire boilers, all running continuously for over 100 years. They were the last beam engines pumping drinking water in Britain, but in 1975 to cope with population growth in the area it was converted to electric pumps which have been further updated since.

Boilers being stoked below, and this video is of the beam engines operating:

About 75% of our foreign aid budget is recycled through our NGOs and companies in 2014.

Hmmmmm a 125 page document produced by a number of countries with a vested interest. First class!

Are you sure that Trex hasn't discovered the password to the Woosh account? Many of these posts bear striking similarities and characteristics to Trex's style of posting. The above being an example.

Still £250 million a week going in Foreign Aid whilst hard working families are being asked to stump up an extra 15% on their council tax to fund a £175 million hole in the care budget.

Err no.

Where or when have I ever said that the EU is foreign? I'll answer that for you. Nowhere.

If you are incapable of constructing reply, don't resort to lies. It's beneath you.

Trex still has the password for the account.
We (@Woosh) agree that we are politically neutral.

That was more a wider "you lot" rather than just a tilson "you". Sorry tilson, I should have been more specific but there was no possible confusion as we all know that you, tilson, are a europhile!

I think the word that you are searching for, but failing to find, is Euroscrptic.

It's a big mistake to think of this money as Foreign Aid, it's nothing of the sort and never has been.

In truth it's bribery, the objectives being a favourable relationship with the politicians of a recipient country for trade and defence advantages, and to deny those advantages to our supposed enemies. Those "enemies" do the same for other countries and for the same reasons.

That's why we are content, even pleased, when the aid money we give ends up in the pockets of the politicians of the recipient country, it's achieved the desired result, which has never been helping their citizens.

And this whole scenario is why the "aid" will never be ended in favour of the citizens of the donating country for such as a care budget. It's not money to help citizens, it's a slush fund.

After all the years of tory government, how is the UK shaping up for the future?

This man has a view and I believe he's absolutely right. When 'Brexit' is presented to the British public and we move forward from there, they will discover it wasn't the EU which caused our problems - the rich, old and new, aristocracy have been having a field day under tory rule which, in essence, has endured unbroken for 37 years. Our country's assets have been sold at knock-down prices to foreign venture capitalists in order to further increase the vast wealth of the very few to the severe detriment of ordinary, tax-paying people.

The good news just keeps flowing doesn't it.

"Retail sales in December dropped 1.9% from the previous month, according to official figures.

Sales across all main retail sectors declined, with the heaviest falls coming at non-food stores, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) said.

It was the biggest monthly fall for more than four and a half years.

Experts had predicted a much smaller 0.1% monthly fall."

So it was a full 1800% worse than even the experts had predicted. Joy.

I think I agree with that too, Brexit is almost a completely different argument. Trouble is if things get worse, which they were going to do without change, Brexit will be blamed.
In reality country has been in a financial mess for years and divisions have got larger. Dissatisfaction was rife and rising ? My opinion is however that our financial problems are minor compared with large parts of eu. My selfish side thinks get uk sorted, then help abroad, which according to some makes me a racist. It does not.
A fine sentiment, but now all power rests in the hands of a Tory government due to Brexit. the chances of change for the better have receded to the vanishing point.
Tell me, laudable as the idea is change for the better here is how is it to be achieved?
You placed us all at the mercy of our worst enemies; what are you going to do about it?
Try to be more creative than "We can always vote them out"
A great idea but....
No one believes that do they?
When with a very few exceptions we will only get more of the same.

Should we be diverting money from the foreign aid budget to fund social care and care for the elderly?

I know we read headline grabbing statement that foreign aid money is being wasted on useless projects, and no doubt some of it is. I am equally sure that some of the money does good. But can the country afford to make this jesture when we are too short of cash to look after our own citizens?

I really think these questions need to be asked.
So do I my friend, so do I, to the point that we need to see that the expense is justified, not merely to cancel it.

I can't help but think that there is going to be a sting in the tail to this comment. Am I correct?
