The 94 % quoted for Scotland was keeping folk out of hospital. (ie in the group studied 94% fewer hospitalisations)
the 94% is not typical and a bit misleading.
The vaccine effect (VE) for both Pfizer and AZ increases in the first 3 weeks after the jab, peaks on week 4, then wanes from week 5.
Quoting the peak VE invites people to believe that they are better protected than they really are.

The study actually gave overall VE 58% without the fudging factors to compensate for age and comorbidity.

For the Pfizer vaccine, VE is 85% on week 4 then drops to 68% on week 5.
I expect the AZ vaccine follows the same pattern but the authors picked the cut-off point of the study just at the point where the AZ peaked at 94% so the figures sticks in people's memory.
Crafty or just coincidence?

Former French President Sarkozy, and two former associates, have been sentenced to three years in jail - for corruption.
Meets with my approval for a very different reason, Sarkozy annoyed me by cosying up to the USA in a way that no earier French president did, even stating it as policy.

I'd always admired the French for being the one EU country prepared to stand up to America and particularly it's warlike conduct when it was needed.

they are among the top paid civil servants.
Good to see in your link that Public Health England is to be scrapped, it's long been a useless waste of money. Professor Nick Phin who has been trotted out onto the Daily Covid Show previously will lose his salary as Incident co-director for Covid-19, Public Health England. He's also sitting on SAGE as Deputy Director of the National Infections Service in Public Health England, so may lose that too.

This really is one huge gravy train that most of the public are completely unaware of.

Why did we need a highly paid National Infections Service when Covid infected us for free?!

Wales currently has the lowest rate among the four nations, with 65.7 cases per 100,000 people in the seven days to February 24.

This is the lowest rate for Wales since the seven days to September 22, 2020.

Both Scotland and Northern Ireland are now just below 100 cases per 100,000 people.

Scotland currently has a seven-day rate of 95.7 cases per 100,000, the lowest since October 4, while Northern Ireland is at 97.0, the lowest since September 28.

England remains just above 100, at 102.8 cases per 100,000 - the lowest rate since October 1.

And my vaccine appointment has just been called through.

Don't come in here spouting logic. It's banned.
Thank you.. I think.
Why hasn't OG explained why he thought vaccination program would be finished earlier under one regime over the other? At one stage he was convinced, then changed his argument... Then went silent. Except for insulting someone?
Why are so many on here against our vaccine rollout? It's very strange. It is quite literally, for a change, world leading. It's about the only thing this government has got anything like right but lots of angry dissenters on here.
Sarah Jarvis on radio today said German media had reported AZ vaccine had only 8% efficacy for over 65s. They had claimed to have "mis interpreted data" , apparently data said only 8% of cohort was in that age group. No wonder Germans are refusing it. Perhaps some on here bought into those lies.
Our vaccine roll out is exceptional. We are all benefitting and will benefit more. What is wrong with you people.
How many refused the jab on here? I, d guess quite a few??

Are we going to require vaccination passports/certificates to post here? :)
If you are decrying the vaccine and those organising I think probably yes??
Seems strange to knock a group of people, call them names, (actually liars and lackeys) rubbish their achievements, pick holes in their policies and refute the data they offer but accept the products of their efforts.
Have you had a jab??
I, ve not had mine yet but wish I had. A single with a 12 week delay would be fine thanks.
Should these highly paid civil servants volunteer their services.? To be honest I don't begrudge good surgeons, doctors or consultants a penny. Think I, d rather a well paid one take control of my treatment than a volunteer. Criticising that team on their earnings is silly. Of course they are well paid. They should be.
We have many friends in both Germany and France. Their attitudes towards our government and handling covid has completely changed in last few weeks. They are all very envious. German friends are up in arms about their vaccine response. Blaming EU, Merkel and Macron.(and their devolved method of governance).

I think there have been some big mistakes in relation to the whole vaccination program.

That there is even one vaccine is pretty good. That there are several and, hopefully, we will see the strengths and weaknesses assessed and used to improve them, is excellent.

I am scheduled to have mine on Friday. I take it seriously enough to avoid alcohol for a few days. (Not that I am a big drinker.)

I have not criticised any doctor for their pay in this thread.

My post was intended to be a jocular ribbing implying that, if we did include posting here as something that required proof of vaccination, we might not see POLLY any more.

AND:

Single dose of Pfizer or AZ vaccine reduces risk of hospitalisation in over-80s by more than 80%, new research suggests

Unfortunately some don't read what is posted and reply with lies. I'm accused of posting against the vaccination program but that is completely untrue. I'm very strongly in favour of everyone getting the vaccine, but as recommended by the tests, trials and resulting evidence and have argued for that. I am not happy with that being changed in direct contradiction to what the makers said and still say.

None of us to my knowledge have refused or even intend to. Probably because none of us are against Covid-19 vaccination, apart from POLLY perhaps.

Not me, Having mine tomorrow the sooner the better.
I'm an outpatient nhs clinician. Had one dose of pfizer 6 weeks ago. Inpatient staff have had second dose. Non clinical change of regime means an illusion of protection for many. And increased probability of vaccine resistant mutation.
Why do so many on here enjoy being lied to by boris? It frankly amazes me. What does he have to destroy to make you come to your senses?

.. and they add a qualifier to the headline: "after 3 or 4 weeks."

People can interpret that as "anytime after 3 or 4 weeks", very different from the reality, "at week 3 or week 4" after the jab.

How many do you reckon will look up the published papers and see for themselves that after the protective effect peaks at week 3 or week 4, the effect fades away.
The announcement is literally correct but somewhat misleading.

At today's Covid briefing, JVT was very careful when he announced the latest research result for the 80+ group, he took his time to explain the work, and concludes that the vaccine gives 60% protection against the illness and may be as much as 70%.

Not so. The governments scientific lackeys who do as they are told by their paymaster have said that. The manufacturers of the best vaccines on safety grounds have disagreed and refuse to support that. I also disagree personally on very sound statistical grounds which the lackeys are conveniently ignoring to conform with the government's wishes.
.
Just to remind you flecc about your view of JVT, PV and Chris Witty.
They are lackeys because they are not saying what you want them to, not because of any evidence based objective measure.
I suppose experts on radio today congratulating our roll out are bribed to spout propoganda too. Even the Germans congratulating it.. Wonder how much they were paid.
