Makes a change from "Pie in the sky"

No doubt some chum will be spaffed billions on this, you have to wonder how many realise how deep the tunnel will have to go to get under the Beaufort trench, which is 300metres deep!
Did I miss a few weeks? Has April started already?

I see some Twitter comments are also utterly incredulous:

The bit about a bridge being closed 100 days a year! What rot. It would be perfectly possible to design a fully or partially enclosed bridge. If the Øresund Bridge can work, so too could one in that location. Both have to work in bad weather.

Any idea if this is a rail or road tunnel?

And while we can't even keep existing Thames bridges standing and working!

London's bridges are falling down: how politics has failed the capital's crossings
The £150m repair of Hammersmith Bridge, closed since 2019, is mired in squabbling – and it’s just one of many across the UK that need work

Doomed to fail. The penalty for impeachment is removal from office...The Constitution states..........The president, vice president, and all civil officers of the United States are subject to impeachment.........Nothing about former.
The impeachment started while he was president. There are previous impeachments of former officials - though not presidents. Utterly illogical that being ex-president would protect.

Remember the suggestions DT would stand down, Pence would take over - maybe pardon DT, then DT would return. That would also defeat any possibility of impeachment if someone wished to avoid it.

I'm pleased to see we have the lowest reliable (7 day smoothed new cases) new cases figure since Oct 8.

Let's hope the Buffoon Johnson doesn't get persuaded to wreck it by even stupider Tory MPs (All coronavirus legal restrictions must be permanently lifted by the end of April, say a group of Tory backbench MPs) Relates to Jonathan's response to a post of mine on a totally different (Trump) topic....

Yes Boris hides behind a similar sincere buffoon impression while slaughtering the vulnerable. And disingenuous tory voters are too happy to collude with it

Impeachment carries with it being banned for life from further office...

Correct. ,And as the US Senate a week ago reaffirmed by a majority decision, and had previously done, they tried officials who were in office at the time of the alleged offence and the i initialisation of the impeachment process in the House, ..but resigned before the Senate trial. Nope Trump was banged to rights.

But still seem to have lots of support which will likely only lose to even further right organisations.
Now that the principle of "No accountabilty" has been established the USA has reverted to the Wild West

The press often finds stories that are somehow both surprises and yet appear highly targetted at the issues du jour.

Nelson urged mistress to give their baby girl 'new' smallpox vaccine
Naval hero praises Jenner’s cowpox jab in a newly found love letter to Emma Hamilton, written as he prepared for war
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/feb/14/nelson-urged-mistress-to-give-their-baby-girl-new-smallpox-vaccine

If it's truly a coincidence, 'tis an amazing one.
Surely worth a little pro vaccination exposure in the media
"If it was good enough for a National Hero...."
And why not?

A lawyer on ITV last month said the law on free speech in the USA is very different to the laws in the UK...To commit the offence of inciting violence the act has to be imminent....not in the indefinite future.
From Wiki
The First Amendment to the United States Constitution guarantees free speech, and the degree to which incitement is protected speech is determined by the imminent lawless action test introduced by the 1969 Supreme Court decision in the case Brandenburg v. Ohio. The court ruled that incitement of events in the indefinite future was protected, but encouragement of "imminent" illegal acts was not protected .

You misunderstood the process. Trump did not have to be guilty or innocent. The function of impeachment is to remove a public office holder whose actions damage in an obvious way the confidence of the office. Even had there not been weeks of speeches but he was sitting in the WH watching TV and seeing the Riots and did not act for many hours, that itself is a high crime and misdemeanor. Anyway the GoP has blown their credibility to shreds .
Wrong.

But the Senate trial was never a criminal justice trial. It was a competence and confidence event. Basically its where the Board of Directors seek to disqualify the Chairman who has gone ga ga . As they made out many times, the Senate is not bound by the SC...it makes its own rules.

This is an interesting piece that details some of the problems British companies are having since Brexit. I am hoping that a lot of the difficulties are simple teething problems that can be ironed out over the next couple of months.

There does however seem to be more and more stories appearing in the media about firms having to open up some of their operations in the EU. I think JD Sport were saying recently they were probably going to have to do this. If this trend continues then surely it is going to lead to a loss of jobs in the UK.

Here is the piece.

The Constitution .of course they are bound by that, and irrespective of which path they choose yesterday would have been consistent. No. Moral cowardice and Party before country . The verbal gymnastics that McConnell engaged in was worthy of any follower of St Ignatius Loyola.
