I’m watching BBC Click (Hate this programme). They have just shown a Fire Train. Yes that’s right, a fire engine on rails. Apparently, the Swiss are the only country to have such a facility. Could this be because it’s the most idiotic idea ever conceived by mankind and no other country is stupid enough to build / buy one?
That's not so bad, here we have a floating Fire Engine on the Thames, presumably in case the river catches fire.

It had a Hull post code... And was sort of bog shaped...
Humour eh?
Tell me why do you equate me with a terrorist act because I want people to get the correct dose at the correct interval?
How would such an act benefit that agenda?
It wouldn't would it, what it does do is demonstrate what a weird viewpoint you have.
That's why I gave your post a laughing face.
You do deserve to be laughed at! :D

The EU is behaving in a despicable manner over the vaccine supply. They were late ordering they are late approving and now they want priority delivery on a vaccine, that technically, they still have not decided if they want to use.

The U.K. pulled off a master stroke here. We bought the vaccine before anyone knew if it worked. That allowed a big head start to be gained in terms of gearing up production. You can’t turn up late, like the EU, saying we might buy it, we can’t decide, but we demand to go to the head of the queue. **** off!!

They actually want to divert U.K. stocks of a U.K. created, U.K. manufactured, benevolently priced vaccine that they can’t decide if they want to use. If ever anything encapsulated all that is wrong with the EU this is it.

The price should be hiked to 100 Euros per dose. ****’em.

who do you believe? AZ says the contract with the EU is based on 'best efforts' while the EU says that it is an 'advanced order'. EU wants the contract disclosed, AZ says no to that.

The evidence we can see is;

1) The EU still has not taken a decision as to whether they want to use the AZ vaccine.

2) The U.K. place an order and invested in the AZ vaccine during May 2020. The EU didn’t do anything until October 2020 and unlike the UK didn’t pay any money.

3) The U.K. took the decision to use the AZ vaccine weeks ago.

Back of the queue EU I’m afraid. If they carry on in the petulant fashion displayed over recent days, they should be charged 100 Euros per shot and we should use that extra money to set up a massive vaccination programme in third world nations. The more people we vaccinate, the less chance of mutations. If we neglected third world countries, that’s where the new strains will come From.

That’s a good warning. The vaccine plant will be a terrorist target. Security should be beefed up now.
Apologies it was posted here already, it's a several days old story now but relevant. Small scale terrorism; pharmacist removes vaccine from fridge to render it useless, and puts it back.
(I think I read somewhere he was anti-vac, can't see that now.)

Without knowing a lot of the detail due to commercial confidentiality it looks to me as though the EU have been too slow off the block when it comes to AZ vaccine purchase.

I have found it interesting though that Boris and Co are trying to keep right out of any arguments with the EU over all this and that got me to thinking why. The only reason I can come up with is that they are worried that the EU will stop all vaccine export to non EU countries.

Now I think I am right in saying all our Pfizer vaccine comes from the EU (a factory in Belgum), and millions of people in the UK have had this as their first injection. The government must be worried that they might not got enough supply to give all these people (my wife had the Pfizer injection) their second injection, hence why they are trying to take a very soft line with the EU.

I have also noticed in the last few days one or two experts starting to mention the possibility of using the AZ vaccine as the second injection even if you had the Pfizer one first.

What do you all think, do you think it's likely the EU will stop the Pfizer vaccine coming into the UK, and will our government then sanction the use of the AZ vaccine as the second shot even if you had the Pfizer vaccine as the initial injection.

Until it it is not. How do you get water, high pressure pumps into tunnels , thru mountains quickly?. You cannot fly them, helicopters not great at altitude, you cannot use roads , and they are a bit big for St Bernard Dogs. Oh and ships are next to useless.

They have already sanctioned use of different vaccine (8th Jan) in exceptional circumstances.
I read that same report about anti vaxxer spoiling vaccine. Crazy..
I believe Govt have just ordered a further 60 million from another firm ( Valneva? based in Scotland) who as yet haven't passed trials..
You have to give our govt credit for ordering stuff before it's got authorisation. EU didn't it seems.
Send our new Aircraft Carrier to Ostend to pick AZ jabs up...

it's not a bad idea, unless the AZ vaccine is much less efficacious.
It's called 'Heterologous prime-boost vaccination' - it seems to offer extra protection. However, in the study I've read about, the antigen is the same in both whereas they are different in the case of covid vaccines.

The U.K. took a big gamble by committing to the AZ vaccine very early. It’s paid off in a big way.

Germany threatening “consequences “ unless we bump them up the queue isn’t help. What do they have in mind? Reactivating their gas chambers?

I reckon AZ will concede. The window of opportunity for AZ is only about 6 months.
The table will be reversed when other vaccine factories start production.

Same as with fire hydrants, dry risers and the like.

You build fire fighting equipment and supplies into the very structure of the tunnel (or whatever). Pipes and remotely operable or automatic valves. Water (or foam) tanks. Pipes from water supplies above the tunnels - such as lakes. Pumps as needed.

Why, in Wales, sprinkler systems are mandated for all new houses. (Though it took a few years to get implemented.) Rationale being partly the time and difficulty in reaching many properties, especially in bad weather, partly the remoteness of many properties, and the tiny number of fire fighters available at any one location.

(This makes Grenfell appear even worse a failure. How could any high rise building not be fitted with adequate sprinklers?)

Fire sprinklers compulsory for all new homes in Wales
