the problem is when about 1 in 4 got Covid, even only dormant, Covid can no longer be controlled with lockdown. That may be what we are seeing now.

What we should have done is what we could not have done, followed Vietnam's example and instigate a lockdown back in January ... and for them it worked, we just don't have the same mind set. I was listening to a phone-in on R5 recently and a ex-pat in Saigon said " you people in the UK are quite prepared to risk your lives for a pint of beer down the pub .. you must be insane " and of course he was absolutely right. There's only one way ..... my way ... and that's what everybody says ;)

brinkmanship. Bluff.
we have to do deals with most if not all our commercial partners even if that takes years.
The brinkmanship and utterly unreasonable stance will work in negotiations..ONCE. It is a one trick pony. The EU is very well aware that BJs /DC strategy was to force the EU to walk away , and then shoulder the blame. But the EU just will not play along. ..nor will it capitulate It just will not walk away. If anything the stance from the 8 Coastal EU countries has now reduced Barniers negotiating flexibility regarding Fishing

??? There are more than 8 coastal EU countries.

This is becoming the kind of conversation our negotiation team had five minutes after that last ultimatum.

I know, but I was only counting the ones with major fishing interests that affect us in any way. Half of those are inconsequential as far as we are concerned.

I see Hunt is still ambitious:

Tory ministers to hold 'rapid' inquiry into government's Covid-19 response

Former health secretary Jeremy Hunt and Greg Clark will lead cross-party investigation

I've just learnt that of the circa 19,000 fines issued for breaking Covid regulations, some half have not been paid, chiefly because the recipients are point blank refusing to pay.

The conflict that many forecast could occur over these regulations I can see happening if enforcement is attempted.

Trump refuses to take part in virtual debate .....

Running scared :D
Sensible more like. He's probably better served by continuing his own one sided debate with himself via Twitter and certain media, since that's where he has most contact with the voters.

Yes, of not being allowed to interrupt.

I saw a convincing article this morning saying he is now not so much looking to win the election, more looking for excuses and ways to show he is great and everyone loves him.
I'm not sure I agree, but well worth a quick scan.

Despite the wide (and widening) gap shown in the polls I still have an anxious feeling that something could go wrong.

I see Trump isn't totally in control of the FBI:

Six people charged in plot to kidnap Michigan governor Gretchen Whitmer
FBI said plot involved reaching out to members of a militia who ‘talked about murdering tyrants or taking a sitting governor’
