What to make of this?

A leaked government report suggests a "reasonable worst case scenario" of 85,000 deaths across the UK this winter due to Covid-19.

The document also says while more restrictions could be re-introduced, schools would likely remain open.

But it says the report "is a scenario, not a prediction" and the data are subject to "significant uncertainty".

Still no app. No available vaccine. No confidence we have sufficient PPE. And, probably the worst single factor, the same so-called government.

There is an advertising campaign to get businesses ready for the end of the transition arrangements.

The UK has left the EU - 5 things any business buying goods from Europe needs to do
The process for importing goods from the EU will change on January 1 2021
https://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/uk-news/uk-left-eu-need-do-18837251

When you work your way through what, as an individual, you need to do, you get helpful information like:

What to do if you’re involved in a road accident
If you’re involved in a road accident in an EU country you should in the first instance contact your insurer.
Begging your pardon? Wouldn't it very often be appropriate in the first instance to contact the police and whatever medical services might be needed?

I hope we don’t do anything like 85K this winter, but I suppose it’s not impossible. France is currently seeing an exponential rise in positive cases, which shows just how infectious this disease is. I hope our government is watching and learning, because again we are being given a head start to get things right.

Do you folks think what is currently happening in France and Spain is likely to happen here in a few weeks time?
No. This government will probably divide our figures by ten and declare that what they are suffering is specifically an EU strain, saying that's backed by the science and adding how lucky we are to be out of the EU.

First, they'll have to learn how to do that arithmetic. They don't have a good record on numbery things.

Coronavirus: France sees 'exponential rise' in cases
France is currently seeing an exponential rise in positive cases, which shows just how infectious this disease is.
The Tour De France is starting from Nice shortly today with lots of fans already present and no doubt the route for the next three weeks will be lined with tens of thousands of fans as usual.

Seems a handy way of distributing the current big infection surge around the country, ensuring the égalité part of their national motto, liberté, égalité, fraternité .

By the time it ends in Paris on the 20th September we may have seen the start of the cost, if any. Of course it's less likely to be the couple of hundred riders doing any distribution so much as their huge following entourages.

A century, and we might only just now be getting towards an explanation of Encephalitis lethargica.

Encephalitis lethargica: 100 years after the epidemic

https://academic.oup.com/brain/article/140/8/2246/3970828

My obvious reason for posting is a concern that, whatever we have seen so far, the long-term (decades) fallout from Covid-19 possibly isn't even starting to be appreciated.

In case you don't already know:

Awakenings
is a 1990 American drama film based on Oliver Sacks's 1973 memoir of the same title. It tells the story of a fictional character, Dr. Malcolm Sayer, which is based on a real life experience of the author, who, in 1969, discovers beneficial effects of the drug L-Dopa. He administers it to catatonic patients who survived the 1917–28 epidemic of encephalitis lethargica. Leonard Lowe and the rest of the patients are awakened after decades and have to deal with a new life in a new time. The film was nominated for three Academy Awards.

Not really sure what you are saying there that the BBC report didn't say?

Also, think how "seasonal flu" deaths might be interwoven with Covid-19 to produce desired results.

I didn’t realise that Baroness Dildo was in charge of the Jockey Club and took the decision to go ahead with the Cheltenham horse gambling event pre lockdown. I did know about the Talk Talk fuckup though.

She can’t have made a clusterfuck of everything she’s touched, can she? There must be something that she hasn’t broken. Anyone know what that might be?

Oops. Of course, new cases always indicates what was happening which could have changed.

UK records 1,715 Covid cases in largest weekend figure since mid-May
Rise in number of cases feeds concerns of second spike in autumn

Right place, right time Barry.
But which place and when? Of the places that I can find where she’s been, she was there at a time of fuckup and failure to deliver. That pattern is continuing with test & trace. Maybe that’s the plan, she is being paid to fail, take the blame, suffer a maximum of 3 days of embarrassment and then disappear with a sack full of cash. The government stays clean.

It’s quite funny that Corbyn’s brother has been slapped with a £10K fine for protesting against measures intended to keep us all healthy.

Both Jeremy and his brother (who is no fool) benefited from quite a privileged education and background. I wonder what happens to people like them and at what age, when they suddenly turn against the general population and work to eradicate the systems and institutions that they have benefited from themselves? Something must have happened to make them both hate ordinary people so much.

I know we are stuck with BoJo for a while, but think we had a narrow escape from the alternative at the last election.
