Is it today that the fat arsed bitch's immigration bill is published? The one that dictates that if you earn less than £26K you can FO, or something similar.

No Ross, the Science did not say masks don't work, ..that is ladybird level response. The Scientific advice was a lot more nuanced than that. Physical distancing is the best option, it is cost free and very effective. Masks are valuable when distance is not an option. Facecovering is a cheaper less effective option than full masks. The main problem being that it gives a false sense of security
The Irish advice is basically that.. Face cover if forced into proximity. Eg shops , public transport.
Again figures . A simple cotton fabric double layer ..eg teeshirt reduces immediate transmission by 50% 1/2
A quality non medical mask 70% 1/3
A high quality medical standard properly fitted ..eg tight 95% 1/20
The fraction is the amount that gets through per unit of time.

2 people both wearing fresh simple cotton masks 75% 1/4
2 people both wearing fresh commercial masks 1/9
No, the message from day one here has been that face masks offer little or no protection to the wearer. That was what "the science" said.

That advice the government sought from "the science" will have been based on a question similar to this: "We have ****** up and run all the PPE stocks down in order to save money. Based on a stock of zero face masks, what is your advice regarding face masks?"

Everyone knew it was bullshit from day one, but it didn't stop them trying to get it past the Great British Public.

The original estimate was 80% susceptible, 1% fatal, that gives a rough estimate of 5.5 millions infected.
To achieve herd immunity, another 400,000 people over 70 still need to be culled.
Note to self : Dont give anybody your personal details under any circumstances

Not sure
They are usually employed by UK government and tend to infantilise our population.
They have now found a new word: face covering. We are not too thick to put face covering on but too thick to put a face mask on.
Plus of course we were told if we all buy masks the NHS will fall short. I've just purchased two more face masks of the kind that have removable filters and far superior to surgical masks, strange they were never recommended.

Cummings self destruct note to Boris: Place a Contract with Tim Witherspoon for used Bar towels and Dyson to make a machine to mould them into face masks

Yes they did Danidl that's why so many didn't buy them. Microbiologist Dr Simon Clarke who was on Sky News daily giving scientific advice to the masses, constantly repeated there was no point in wearing a face mask.
Personally I always ignored everything he said, god knows where his future lies but it won't be beyond the yellow brick wall that's for sure.

That Wetherspoon guy came to my home town once to preach about Brexit, he was lucky to escape the place alive.
Not a popular chap in these parts.

I suppose I should say in defence of Dr Simon Clarke, the advice he gave on the public use of masks would have also been based on the reality that most people would use the covering again and again, whereas the Health Service throw theirs away for safety after use. My tip as I gave in an earlier post was to spray your mask with a sanitizer all over after you use it to keep it fresh.

a 9.2 radius covers more than half the floor area of London, by your previous comment.
Only for someone living in the middle, mainly the wealthy these days. For the bulk of us living in the peripheral large boroughs it covers rather little. For example my 14 miles one way just to the centre. Commutes within London can easily exceed 20 mile one way, indeed I've actually had a period of commuting of just over 20 miles that didn't even get near to spanning London:

Of course you can get a test if you are over 5 and have symptoms...

UK coronavirus home test kits run out as eligibility list is expanded

Apparent shortage comes day after Matt Hancock expanded list of people who can get test
The NHS appeared to run out of its daily allocation of home testing kits within hours on Tuesday morning after Matt Hancock said anyone aged five and over with symptoms could get tested for coronavirus.

Those trying to order a home test kit were left disappointed as the NHS website said they were not available as early as 10am, while a recorded message on the government’s 119 line said: “We’re very sorry. The available allocation has already been issued at this time.”

Did anyone else think they might run out? No, of course not. They were surprised by the demand. But they have kept telling us that they have more capacity than there has been demand. So testing is either demand limited, or capacity limited, but definitely not unlimited!

I am fairly convinced that steam ironing is a good approach.

If I were attempting to re use a paper based mask, my strategy would be place it in a plastic bag with a table spoon of water and put the lot in the microwave oven for 5 minutes. .. total steam cleaning .. no touching. But for my purposes, a simple cloth face make, made by she who must be obeyed will serve just as well. I have no need for crowds.

To use a Donald Trumpism, it looks like we are currently doing about 400 / day. I think the death line is on the cusp of kicking upwards again. If we do more than 400 tomorrow, there definitely will be an upturn.
