Does anyone know who’s topping the bill on The Coronavirus Show this evening? I’m hoping it’s the one who looks like the big cabinet ministers hold down whilst Boris sits on his head and farts. Jenrick or something like that.

SERCO are another clusterfuck company. They provide services to the armed forces. I’ve come across them numerous times when calling in for refuelling at RAF bases. The forces hate them, the people who work for SERCO hate them and I’ve not been impressed. The fuelling rigs reek of neglect and underfunding. The guys do their best, but SERCO just exists to kick the arse out of the contract, with the only consideration being profit.
It's non-sequitur in this thread, but Serco are amazingly something of an improvement in this supply area!

When the forces ran their own refuelling services the scale of fuel theft was enormous. In just one case where I knew it had been going on the POL sergeant had been using the unit coach loaded with jerrycans to sell petrol over a wide area of Hampshire! He was courtmartialled and received a long custodial sentence.

I was watching a report on CNN about methods used to control the covid outbreak. It was said unsurprisingly that spraying the streets & people themselves did more harm than good, because of the chemical laden vapour it spread around which in turn was breathed in.
If it saves you from death, maybe a bit of "chemical" is worth it?

Very difficult to make a proper judgement. Especially as we do not know which chemicals they used. (Did CNN identify them?)

Yes, the holiday will be mainly walking & cycling. I’m not keen on going, the cottage May be contaminated and I don’t have any knowledge of who has cleaned it and how thoroughly. I think the risk is too high and I believe people should stay local to their homes this year. I’ve had enough of visitors and newdoers in my area, most of who don’t know how to conduct themselves in the outdoors, so I’m sure Cornish people won’t want me in their area either.

I’ll swallow the £1K if the government lifts the ban, but I’ll get £1K out of them either in cash or hide if the ban isn’t lifted.

I’ll take a look at that website thank you.
Hope it all works out ok anyway Barry. The BBC has a good line on it " One day plans will be made....and kept "

I think they were referring to common or garden Disinfectants, all of which are poisonous of course should you imbibe them yourself. Nothing wrong with any of them of course, just don't breath them in.

That still leaves open the real question. For example, hydrogen peroxide is an effective disinfectant. But, unlike phenolics (carbolic acid and so on), once sufficiently dilute it has very little impact. Low enough to be usable as a mouthwash.

UK coronavirus live: Alok Sharma to lead daily briefing as Michael Gove insists schools are safe
He’ll be talking about the latest developments in the country’s search for a vaccine

Easier for him to talk about vaccination than the government's persistent vacillation. (Sorry to be repetitive.)

Saw this the other day and then lost it!

Last week, BBC Scotland’s Disclosure programme revealed that there were multiple transmissions of coronavirus in Edinburgh on 26 and 27 February, well before the first confirmed case in the country on 1 March, but that this was not disclosed to the public.
https://www.theguardian.com/politics/live/2020/may/17/uk-coronavirus-live-boris-johnson-acknowledges-frustration-over-lockdown-rules

Is this what all the levelling with the public, transparency, truthfulness, etc., actually means? Don't disclose that there were cases earlier than already acknowledged.

The government computer experts designing the tracing app have wanted to improve the system for the journalists during the daily briefing. They wanted them and us to have a much better experience when it comes to the journalists questions. Today we can all see the results of this tremendous work!!!!!!!

I can't remember the name of the ministers side kick today, its Steve something or other. Why hasn't someone told him to stop say uh, after virtually every single word. He has been doing it since we first saw him weeks ago, but he seems to be getting even worse.

Sharma also confirmed that Oxford University has confirmed a global licensing agreement with AstraZeneca, which will make 30 million vaccine doses available to the UK by September if the trials are successful, as part of an agreement for 100 million doses in total.

a) Who decides which half of the population gets the vaccines? Without wholesale testing being in place, we can't just vaccinate those who have not yet had covid-19.
b) Is this a case of over-promising, especially the "by September"? Like the millions of tests Hancock ordered. (Despite words like "if".)

It looks like an attempt to regain a vestige of credibility.

It's inhalation that's the problem though. Even one of the safest disinfectants (Dettol) made up of Chloroxylenol can cause acute respiratory problems if droplets are inhaled.

That Obama has restrained himself against responding against the daily attacks for 4 years shows incredible self control. Everything he says is true.
Obama needs to keep his gob shut. It goes against protocol to speak out, no matter how much it’s deserved. Bad form that. Obama should’ve also kept his gob shut when he came on the state visit, disgraced himself by interfering in British politics, which he should never do.

Trump is an idiot, there is no doubt about it, but Obama isn’t exactly a shining example of a good president.

Maybe - but hydrogen peroxide is even less nasty if dilute. And Dettol affects cats.

Protocol only works when observed. Obama was of course clever enough not to refer to any specific individual... Something which Trump never had the wit to do... except when he was saying those.. "people tell me that I'm the best " , comments without ever identifying the people

I think in the run up to an election where the president is behaving more to get re-elected than to save lives that a breach in protocol like that is reasonable.
