it seems from your table that government is holding the number of new cases round about current level (5000-6000 new cases a day) .
Basically, test enough to pick out those who are worst affected, the rest are told by NHS 111 Covid to stay at home.
The downside of this strategy is a larger number of fatalities.

The continuing saga

"Asked about the delayed shipment of healthcare PPE from Turkey, the Department for Health and Social Care referred queries to the Foreign Office, which was contacted for comment. Eventually Culture secretary Oliver Dowden said he was hopeful the shipment would still arrive when it arrives... whenever"

Gove said Boris has “very much got his hand on the tiller".

The Express has a new tack, print old news as if it is new!
Boris Johnson's analysis of 'determined' Brexit voters shows transition WON'T be extended
BORIS JOHNSON has been urged to extend the Brexit transition period in light of coronavirus - but one of his throwback columns suggests the Prime Minister will never do so.

So don't dare to change your mind Boris! the Express won't let you.
"It's the Will of the people"
Or rather it was, and they aren't allowed to change their minds either

Seems the RAF is in the air...

Anyway, now it is time to blame the Turks.

RAF plane sent to pressure Turkey to release gowns for NHS

UK government makes desperate move to force export of PPE it promised for Sunday

The British government reacted desperately to delays in securing urgently needed supplies of personal protective equipment from Turkey on Monday evening, dispatching an RAF plane in an attempt to force Ankara to release them.

The plane, one of three that have been waiting to be dispatched to pick up the shipment of 400,000 protective gowns for NHS staff, took off from RAF Brize Norton on Monday despite earlier ministerial assurances that the matter was on the brink of being resolved.

By the time the flight took off there was no indication from the Turkish authorities that the equipment had been approved for export.

The RAF transport planes have been on standby at Brize Norton for days waiting for the go-ahead to pick up 84 tonnes of urgently needed medical clothing and equipment, including the 400,000 gowns made by Turkish suppliers.

With a series of deadlines set by UK ministers missed, the British government has blamed its Turkish counterpart for causing the delays.

Send a gunboat! Ooops, the last time we tried that we got our backsides kicked well and truly.
Perhaps we could try being polite? that should shock them into submission.

This is the Tories that a decade or so ago promised unqualified hospital nursing healthcare assistants a payrise if they studied for NVQ - many studied on top of their normal hours on the wards and eventually found out the qualification wasn't too be recognised and lost out on being graded higher and the pay rise.

* Healthcare assistants (HCAs) make up around a third of the caring workforce in hospitals {1.3 million unregistered healthcare assistants and support workers working on the frontline of care) , but research suggests that they now spend more time than nurses at the bedside. If the NHS wants to improve patient care, it should see healthcare assistants as a critical, strategic resource. Yet many HCAs feel undervalued and overlooked.

Unlike the old State Enrolled Nurses who used to support Registered Nurses, healthcare assistants have no compulsory or consistent training, and a profusion of job titles. This confuses patients, who often assume that everyone is a nurse; and it makes life difficult for some nurses, who are not always sure which tasks they can safely delegate.

Some HCAs are now doing jobs that used to be the preserve of nurses, even doctors. The Review met a group of healthcare assistants from a busy A&E who are inserting IV drips, taking blood and plastering. Yet they are paid at three levels below a newly qualified nurse.

The important sentence in the above is:

This confuses patients, who often assume that everyone is a nurse.

That is the intention. They want the hospital to look well staffed with nurses, but not spend any money. It’s an illusion. They did it with the police, PCSOs uniform being very similar to a police officer’s.

Robert Jenrick stated very clearly on Saturday at the Downing Street briefing that PPE was on its way from Turkey and would arrive the following day. Not that they were going to ask the following day, but that it would arrive the following day. They hadn’t even asked for it at that stage. The lying ****.

I hope this story gains some traction. The lying bastards. I would imagine Beth Rigby will be banned from all future Downing Street briefings. Her crime, discovering the truth.

It would be funny if it wasn't true
Nothing much to see here.... just a Govt department using an automated account to rebut accusations of using automated accounts.
