I had seen references to it the day before yesterday ,.. was very sceptical so this morning I checked the BCG countries .. the co relationship is striking . Yes the IT article spurred me. Even more so is the Portugal Spain comparison ,and references in Germany between DDR and West German cantons.. It is very interesting and hopeful
Extreme caution required:

How is it possible for this government to be so incompetent, so duplicitous, so evil but mysteriously so popular?
oldgroaner @oldgroaner

There is a pandemic of stupidity in this country that brought this government to power and those that did can't face the fact they made a huge mistake

Government has bought no Covid-19 home testing kits despite Matt Hancock's claim millions had been purchased
Senior minister says handling of coronavirus crisis has been 'embarrassing' amid growing concerns over testing

Come on HM, sack this government for all our sakes
I always thought the tories loved tests:

  • 11-plus
  • Common Entrance
  • Oxbridge entrance

Separate them from the hoi palloi.

Oh yes, Johnson & Charles were tested! No change there, then.

What is curious is that there seems a direct correlation with people who support the Government, and include a preference for Brexit in their bio, fortunately so far it hasn't proved to be a transmittable malady.

I suggest confiscation of vehicle should be standard in egregious cases - like this appears to be:

15:23
Porsche driver stopped about an hour from home

North Wales Police say a motorist from Shropshire faces court after he was stopped in his Porsche by police in Bala.

The force says he has been reported under the coronavirus legislation and will be dealt with by the court.

Is it though? At 15.23 it's unlikely he was heading into the country to walk etc., more likely just out driving for the change in scenery with perhaps no intention of getting out of the car.

I think this whole issue of driving is being dealt with far too heavy handedly by the police. They can find far more serious breaches right under their noses close to their police stations, such as people from different households meeting up in pairs or groups and strangers making no effort to maintain 2 metres separation, or any separation at all. I see all those near to my doorstep.

It's motorist bashing again, a favourite sport with the police.

Completely disagree with you there. I can't see how driving that sort of distance could ever be thought acceptable. Much as I might wish to do similarly.

But why?

Cars don't carry viruses so long as drivers remain within them. What about all the other traffic, vans, buses, long distance trucks, police cars even.

And I find it hard to understand, since there is no more contamination risk if you remain in the car than there is is you drive to the shops, precisely why is this now an offence?
And this in a country where airliners are landing all the time, trains and buses running?
illogical

Maybe Hancock clicked the 'Buy it Now' button on ebay but hasn't had confirmation yet from the Chinese seller...

What has happened in some parts of Wales is that people are coming and going to shops - and buying up stock that is in short supply.

The rules have not been well written and explained - and some might not be justified in terms of science or evidence. But stay at home except <list of exceptions> is pretty clear and, I suggest, does not include driving for an hour even if there were no intention of getting out of the vehicle.

By the way, are open-top cars acceptable?

Driver might argue that he was doing 150mph for only a relatively short time on empty roads to get him so far from home ;-)

Informal reports I've heard that trains to NE Essex coast packed even on a limted Sunday service. Sarthend (CV-19 hotspot) has closed and barricaded its seafront carparks

Also noticed in local news a noticeable increase in crime targetiing Industrial estates / business burglaries.
