That neatly sidesteps or overlooks the fact that if I wish to watch my television, I am obliged to pay for a TV licence, even if I never watch any BBC channels. It may well be the case that my obliga(tory) licence fee collected by the government becomes the BBC's money in turn but I find it objectionable that it is then used in part to fund people like Laura Kuenssberg, Andrew Neill, John Humphries, Andrew Marr, John Pienaar and a load of other dyed-in-the-wool tory mouthpieces, there simply to reinforce the message required of their masters at tory central office.

All I require of the BBC is that they report the day's news; I really do not need any editor to spin the report in a particular way but that is exactly what I am forced to put up with unless I switch off…..and I am forced to pay for that!!

Tom

And me. You actually pay for me to post here.

Thanks Tom. You’re a brick.

If May wins the leadership challenge, which I am sure she will, she is then stronger against the Tory 'bastards'. The numbers in the vote will give her an indication of how strong the Tory Leavers actually are.
I think the ERG were stupid to go for a confidence vote now,May is now protected from another vote for 12 months and could be determined to teach the Rees-Moggs and Boris a lesson, red hot poker perhaps???
She may feel confident to put a vote to parliament cancelling Art 50,we know from the ECJ she can do that. Dont forget the first referendum was only advisory.
This could be the end of Brexit.
KudosDave

I think if anything this strengthens Brexit. When she goes and I think she will have to when the vote for her deal finally collapses then whoever comes in will be a committed leaver.

Is the pay for a Janitor especially good at the Beeb?

I doubt it. It’s outsourced to a different company.

If you are looking for extra work why don’t you see if they have any need for fruit and vegetable pickers in the local area? We will need a lot of them come next March.

From Philip Hammond.....
'I’m very clear that the prime minister will have the support of the great majority of parliamentary colleagues. And I think what this vote today will do is flush out the extremists who are trying to advance a particular agenda which would really not be in the interests of the British people or the British economy. Leaving the European Union without a deal would be bad for Britain'.
Wonder what May could have achieved if she didn't have the ERG against her all the time....perhaps 'Dads Army' will be eliminated for good.

the Pound is steady, appreciating even, so I reckon the ERG is going to be beaten tonight.

There’s no question she will win as she would a no confidence vote in parliament but it’s the drip drip process of losing authority and control that does for them.

They all have to be dragged out kicking and screaming in the end. She no different.

Yes probably but missing North and it's naturally friendly folk... Nobody would be envious of living in London flecc. Probably Sandbanks or St Tropez or Carribean but not London... Its a silly argument.
I didn't say they were, I said they were envious of the benefits we have in the South, not the minuses and not specifically London.

However I've known many people who have preferred living in London to other parts of the UK and stayed here all their lives.

Also we have a huge French population here in London, a large proportion from Southern France and they say how much they prefer it here. That's true of their youngsters in particular as evidenced in a TV program on this very subject.

I don't think moaning about the economics of north/south means people are in any way envious. Quite the reverse actually. I, ve got many friends who rode the crazy house price rises in London but still can't enjoy the choice many outside that bubble can enjoy. Think there are more in South envious of fact northerners kids can afford houses.. Its short sighted to not see both sides of argument. I would not live in London for a Kings ransom. Too far from sea, too much traffic, too expensive.List goes on.. As for city links. You, d have to be a pretty sad individual to find envy there. Envy of a beach somewhere, or sun, or quiet but London. I don't think so OG..
You and me both... I live in sight of the sea, and it's smell, even moving 1 mile up a riverbank when the house was being renovated was hell!

this vote is secret, tory MPs only. If she wins, it's only because none of the tory MP wants her job at this moment in time.

Not really, as when at school, like a lot of kids back then I helped with the Harvest during the school holidays... you should try that sometime before making your usual silly remarks, if we need a lot of them then it's up to the likes of you to step in and do your civic duty, isn't it?
And in the words of a certain Tory "Get your finger out"?

Could be.. Perhaps... If... All massive words really.. But if she wins, which watching and listening today think she will, she will be in a stronger position.. I really couldn't see point in confidence vote... If she lost neither ERG isn't really any stronger, except to negotiate a no deal... Perhaps that's what they want.
Will it ever get sorted.
Shows they do feck all rest of time. This has taken all their time up for last 2 years.. Wonder how we, d all carry on not doing real job whilst messing about all time arguing about Brexit... On second thoughts..

164 tory MPs say they will back May.
She will probably win the confidence vote but still cannot get her brexit deal through parliament.

Does anyone know what additional benefit to her 'deal'
Theresa May achieved by making her desperate, last gasp whistle-stop expedition to mainland Europe and to Dublin ?

I ask because if there is no amendment to the negotiated (if that's the right word) 'deal' she subscribed to, why don't the MPs just insist on the vote on 'the only deal on the table'?

It could all be done and dusted this evening in a kind of 'double whammy' political initiative to progress this long, drawn-out fiasco.

Some people chose to live in Hull, there is no accounting for taste.
Envious is wrong word no matter how you look at it. I have never ever heard anyone from North of Watford, or any where else for that matter saying or even implying they are envious of southerners or living in South. Got friends in Cornwall and Devon, see the attraction there but not envious..

You just aren't getting it. As I said, envious of the benefits we have in terms of salaries, job opportunities, infrastructure, transport and certain other facilities.

Of course they aren't envious of the downsides.
