Ah but then you need a whole new level of paper pushers to distinguish who does or doesn’t qualify,

Is the French system really what we aspire the nhs to become?
We already have those in out present inefficient system, an army of pen pushers trying to cope against the tide of excess demand. And they already administer a charging system for all the foreigners using the NHS.

So nobody extra, just a change in what they work with.

Of course corruption isn't a problem in France or EU.!!!!
It's a way of life once you are over channel.
As it is here on this side of the channel for many. I spent the last 17 years of my working life struggling to deal with it in UK businesses and civil administrations.

You really think that there will be no one extra employed?

Surely the main purpose of a fiefdom is to increase the money coming in, then increase your employees,

By the if only we had more money, when that fails, if only we had more people.

Yes, because the savings elsewhere will reduce others employed. The present NHS is appallingly inefficient with many sometimes very expensive people often underemployed as a result.

We, ve had nothing but fantastic treatment from NHS past few years. Too many and some rather too serious to list here, but all dealt with calmly, efficiently and in good humour.... but... there does seem rather a wasteful attitude towards use of staff time. Seems to be rather a lot of carrying folders hither and tither.. seems to work though...

There is never any savings, efficiency or otherwise, that’s not how things work.

I don't think it's just expensive staff either. We had an hour wait a few weeks ago. A group of 4 nurses sat and discussed their holidays our entire wait. All pleasant etc, we were only ones left in waiting room. There is room for some rationalisation.. but incredible service all the same.

Tom, you've done it again I'm having to use the phone to post, the page is jumping like mad otn Windows 10
I wondered what you were going on about. All I could see was a facebook link. That is, a bare text link. Then I remembered I have installed Facebook Container in Firefox which blocks all sorts of facebook-related things.

That would also help control the gross abuse of A & E that's overloading units with minor ailments we always used to deal with ourselves.
High Wycombe had the answer to an overloaded A&E. Close it.

Then they made the fatal mistake of having a minor injuries unit. So the self-same people you want to deal with their own injuries filled that unit.

Including me. :( Severe cut to my hand from a woodsaw. Treatment was quick and simple, clean it up and slap some tissue superglue on it. What staggered me was that the glue costs over £30 for a tiny one-use tube. That price looked even worse when I decided to buy some as an insurance policy at about three pounds for two tubes. Obviously, if I have it, I will never need to use it.

I would have found it very difficult to handle it myself - even with suitable cleaning fluids and glue in the cupboard. Sure, any halfway competent nurse could have done the job rather than the extremely competent and friendly doctor (non-UK trained). At least I didn't call an ambulance! Wrapped hand in kitchen towel and drove.

Should I have been charged? How much? Take my own glue and the price drops by £30?

£150?
a lawyer would charge you £300 for half an hour consultation and they don't fix anything.
It only took him about ten minutes!

Does clock start when you arrive? Or when you get to see a professional? Refund for excessive delays?

If you have a recent installation of Firefox, go to Add-ons. It is a standard optional feature (which sounds very odd, but does make some sense). :)
Just changed to an Android phone from Windows. (8.1 on Nokia 625) Struggling a bit but I, ll have a look.
Cheers.

By the way on another subject, ie Brexit, good to see Labour start to see sense

Labour MP Frank Field: On the Irish border we should make plain that we have no intention of implementing border controls during the transition period or afterwards. If the EU wishes to have border controls, so be it. It will be on their heads.

And you will suffer the consequences....whatever they decide to do.
Be careful what you wish for, none of the "answers" look favourable for you.
