The European Union
very true, but it doesn't need to have happened for its impacts to be felt.
Maybe you could reword your posts to "the menace of brexit" or something along those lines? With Davos going on there have been quite a few comments from very important people from high up on the pecking order saying: "things are bad now and brexit hasn't even happened yet..." when referring to the UK.

I have long thought that the only businesses that could survive on the high street are those that hold little or no stock....hairdressers,coffee bars, charity shops.....wonder why hairdressers have not moved out of town to retail parks....cheaper rates, easier parking.
The admission that the Treasury have told HMRC to 'go soft' on Amazon and E-bay says a lot as to why the vat fraud prevelant in those marketplaces has been ignored by HMRC....Amazon sell almost everything these days, cannot help the likes of Debenhams and House of Fraser.
KudosDave
Why would the treasury request the revenue to do so ? And more pertinent why would hmrc comply?
Our revenue is bound by statute law and values its operational independence.

but brexit has not happened yet.
You're being pedantic - you know perfectly well that the 'Brexit' effect began a long time before A50 was activated. Unfortunately, many, like me, firmly believe that things are undoubtedly going to become far, far worse once we are out of the EU. As a complete plonker once said.......

We have done nothing to address the massive social divide in 30 years. Blaming it now on Brexit is just a remain tool to claim moral high ground. Its the last resort of a loosing argument.
I am not Blaming it all on Brexit as it happens, but on Conservative Policies that will get worse because they now have unlimited power to lower living, safety and environmental standards, and no one can gainsay them can they?
That is what is wrong with Brexit.
It empowered them, and also a layer of scum in society too.
Brexit promised much but things took a turn for the worse when Tory's saw , even though they were possibly against leaving the EU before, that here is a huge opportunity to make a killing at the Public expense, protect their offshore bank accounts and generally act in the way they have always wanted to., as the most highly developed Parasites on the Planet.
With a subservient work slave class to do their bidding.

That is what a vote for Brexit has brought, or rather it is what the Boris faction want.
There is a certain karma in the fact the the EU looks very much like telling them what to do without them being able to complain about it.

So perhaps Brexit will prove from their point of view to be the biggest "Own Goal" of all time:cool:

Jackass has been at it again demonstrating that good old Tory trait of self promotion and treachery, with the usual dash of incompetence, naturally, but he has come up with a new word: BRINO! :D
In the Express this morning
"
'Soft-Brexit will lead to JEREMY CORBYN Government' Jacob Rees-Mogg blasts remoaners
JACOB REES-MOGG has warned Theresa May that if she delivers "Brexit in name only" with a status quo transition period the Conservatives will let Corybn into Downing Street, it has been revealed.
"Then what will be the point of voting for the party that's implemented it. I'm against 'Brino' (Brexit in name only)."

He added: "If the Conservative Party doesn't deliver the Brexit that the British people voted for, the Conservatives will not win the next election.

“The leader is important, but the party is more important.

"Brexit is more important than anyone other than the Queen."

Why one wonders is opposition to what is after all an utterly stupid course of action described as "Remoaning"?
And yet on here we get the opinion expresses that somehow it is wrong to oppose Brexit, and "people are being Shouted down"
Truth hurts comes to mind as appropriate to describe the Brexit voters when their nonsense is opposed.
Why not try advancing something more than pipe dreams denials and bluster to support Brexit?

£841million tax raid on savings: Chancellor's 'stealth grab' on long-term investments to hit nearly 12 million Britons
  • The Treasury has revealed an obscure new tax that will hit long-term investors
  • Experts described it as a stealth tax on retirement funds and home loans
  • It comes after Philip Hammond said measures would apply only to companies

DAILY MAIL COMMENT
Yet again, the Treasury turns its sights on the most frugal and self-reliant members of our society, with yet another stealth tax that could wipe nearly £850million off the value of long-term savings.

By making provision for their own retirement, they lift a huge burden off the State.

But now 11.6million of them are to be penalised, while countless others will be discouraged from saving.

Whatever became of the Tories' solemn pledge to stand up for those who 'do the right thing'?"

A better question would be "Who could be gullible enough to Believe Tory promises?"
Unfortunately the answer is enough people to give us Brexit, now we are seeing how it is going to be paid for.
Not by those with Offshore bank accounts, oh no.....

I rather like this...

Banksy claims responsibility for mysterious new mural in Hull
The artwork was seen by city residents on an abandoned bridge earlier this week
Although it’s not known what inspired this latest piece, many expressed the belief it could be related to Brexit, following in the footsteps of the mural he painted in Dover last May which depicted a workman removing a star from the European Union flag."
Then again it could have the opposite meaning of course!
However this link entitled "Untied Kingdom"tends to suggest otherwise!

https://www.instagram.com/p/BVKLbgpjljJ/?taken-by=banksy
The painting is on the Old Scott street lifting Bridge over the River Hull, which has been locked in the fully up position for many years.

I fear that the juicy fruit of Brexit will remain tantalisingly out of reach"

What juicy fruit?
and
"
The direction of travel seems to have gone in only one single direction: towards a dilution of Brexit"

Pity that when cancellation should be the direction chosen.
And from the Daily Mail
"
Revealed: Collapsed government contractor Carillion ran up debts and sold assets so it could keep paying out £376million of dividends to shareholders
  • Collapsed construction giant Carillion ran up huge debts to pay dividends
  • Carillion handed out £376m from 2012-2016 despite making just £159m cash
  • The firm's liquidation left in its wake a £900 million debt pile and hundreds of millions of pounds in unfinished public contracts

Tory Britain, and amazingly people will still vote for them next time too!

people are seduced by the promise of lower taxes and yet, the same people would find unacceptable the state of our roads, energy cost, public land sell-offs etc

Jeremy Corbyn reveals details of Labour's Brexit plan - and party will NOT call for second referendum
The Labour leader clarified his position and gave several details after a string of key figures failed to rule out a new public vote in future
Mr Corbyn gave details of his view on Brexit as he was grilled by the BBC's interviewer Andrew Marr:

  • He agreed he wanted "easy movement" of people to the UK
  • He did not rule out carrying on making payments to Brussels
  • He said he could "work with" EFTA (the free trade area)
  • But he distanced himself from the 'Norway model'
  • And he said Britain could be part of "a" customs union - not the customs union already enjoyed by EU nations.
  • He stressed Britain must be "able to influence the regulations" that apply after Brexit - a key sticking point.
Frankly the man is as useful as a Chocolate Fireguard. and another career politician living in a dream world where wishes come true

We deserve better than this charade and the comedians in it who seemed like rabbits trapped on the road in car headlights when it comes to representing at least half if not more of the electorate who really don't want Brexit in any shape or form.

Why are no Politicians willing to stand up and be counted?
