June 11, 201510 yr I was just talking to Andrew about his Oxydrive kits, and he mentioned that the price of the Oxygen bikes have also been reduced, so I had a look at the SYEBC website. Hold your horses, sit down and take a deep breath. Are you ready? £1200 for the 13Ah Oxygen MTB! That's brand new, not ex-demo or anything like that. There's nothing on the market that can match it for that price. It's a fantastic bike that feels really taut and planted when you ride it. The braking is exceptional and the grip from the tyres is superb. It has plenty of torque for moderately steep hills, and does 25 mph when you derestrict it through the LCD. Fill your socks. Sorry about sounding like a salesman, That was always one of my favourite bikes, but at £1700, I thought it was a bit expensive. At £1200, there's going to be a lot of very happy ebikers.
June 11, 201510 yr Unusually for an internet forum, I agree with every word of the previous post. The Oxygen MTB is a lovely riding bike, but was a bit dear at £1,700. At £1,200 it is exceptional value. It's still £1,699 on the Oxygen website, but my understanding is the two companies share the same ownership. http://www.syebc.co.uk/bikes/oxygen-13ah-mtb
June 11, 201510 yr £1,200 direct from SYBC, £1,700 from a dealer, seems about right. Does it mean SYBC are giving up on their dealers? It's a fantasticly good bike for the price. I wonder if Kudosdave is going to cut the price of his Rapide to respond to this.
June 11, 201510 yr I believe that the reduction has also been passed on to dealers, but I'm not sure. It also depends if they're honest enough to pass it on to customers.
June 11, 201510 yr I believe that the reduction has also been passed on to dealers, but I'm not sure. It also depends if they're honest enough to pass it on to customers. they'd go like hot cakes if also available at the dealers for £1,200. Given that dealer margin is around 25%, I can't see how SYBC could pass it on to their dealers.

June 11, 201510 yr I posted about this a few days ago, they have passed it onto the dealers and it was at the reduced price I bought one from Absolute Bikes. I bought the e mate city because I have some touring in mind but the 500 pound reduction on the MTB was very tempting !
June 11, 201510 yr You did mention it, which at first didn't register with me. Then, when I was talking to Andrew, I remember what you said, so I asked him about it. He doesn't own Oxygen anymore, so he didn't know much about the prices, so I checked on the SYEBC site and confirmed what you said. I guess one or two people might have missed it. All the Oxygen bikes are reduced to very good prices. You made a good choice with the Emate City. It's also a very nice bike, but in a different way to the MTB. I remember the first go I had on one at the NEC Cycle Show three years ago. Somehow it just felt right when you rode it. In my collection of eleven electric bikes is a mk1 Emate that I rescued from a sorry state. It had clearly done a very high mileage, so now the battery is a bit tired. I'm going to re-cell it, when I get around to it.
June 11, 201510 yr d8veh Thanks for the reassuring words re the e mate city. I asked if the MTB had threaded holes in the rear dropouts for a carrier, unfortunately it does,nt so that ruled it out for me.
June 11, 201510 yr How is that any better than buying a kit for £500: http://www.wooshbikes.co.uk/?hubkits And get a £300 bike from halford with hydraulic brake and nice suspensions? You save almost 50% of the price. Is there something I am missing?
June 11, 201510 yr Is there something I am missing? The job of putting it together and no support of a dealer is what you are missing. Many just want to keep life simple, especially non-technical people. .
June 11, 201510 yr I asked if the MTB had threaded holes in the rear dropouts for a carrier, unfortunately it does,nt so that ruled it out for me. I'd fabricate a carrier to suit the frame or draw it up and get a metalworker, mechanic or blacksmith to create it if I didn't have the skills or equipment. There are other ways to mount a carrier so don't write off a good bike at a good price purely because it hasn't got threaded holes. Tom

I asked if the MTB had threaded holes in the rear dropouts for a carrier, unfortunately it does,nt so that ruled it out for me. Wheelbase and heel strike aside, the solution is p clips,I stripped the holes in my aluminium frame and replaced it with this.if I diet have a pedelec and knew what I know re this kit I'd buy it straight away. The funny thing is that buying the kit can be better inasmuch as it leaves one free to choose a bike that specifically fits ones needs (a racer can average higher speed for longer with more control I find, though I really miss hydraulic discs)

June 11, 201510 yr oldtom/selrahc1992 of course you are right something could be done to accomodate a rear carrier but if i am being honest it was the 500 quid off that attracted me and the thought that I could adapt a bargain bike for touring. but the more i thought about it the e mate city is perfect for my purpose and the big price reduction on the mtb made me momentarily lose sight of that

You save almost 50% of the price. Is there something I am missing? If you rode the Oxygen MTB, you would know straight away how good it is. It's difficult to make a bike from a kit that's as neat and with everything working so well. I met the guy that designed it. He graduated in design, so he's a proper designer and also a MTB enthusiast.

I met the guy that designed it. He graduated in design, so he's a proper designer and also a MTB enthusiast. For neatness, I'd still buy a kit and have it not as neat and working almost as well.. after all, it's the same motor and battery I get. And if I was to spend over a grand on an ebike, I'd get a nice branded bike such as the Cube or Whyte bike with a BBS02 and dolphin battery. I'm pretty confident I'd be happier with this configuration than the Oxygen. It will be potentially faster with the right gearing, ability to climb hills properly, great balance on bike, no need to worry to change flat tyres on rear wheel...

To be fair, punctures are easy, the rear wheel unplug,i did one last night because I run skinny duranos, does anyone know how of good puncture resistant tyres in 700c by 23 other than marathon plus' (which roll like treacle in this size)? I don't want to dig up the old chestnut of hub and crank drives, but I'd recommend anyone try both before choosing,on forum and in reality is two different things
June 12, 201510 yr the Oxygen 13AH MTB is excellently put together, it's a rare thing among Chinese bikes, like the Ebco. You do have to pay a premium for that. Of course, if you convert your bike, then you can do better but most people don't have the skills. One curious point though, the Oxygen 13Ah MTB does not seem to have brake sensors. There is quite a bit of difference in cost. What'd happen if the throttle is still on when you brake? http://www.syebc.co.uk/admin/resources/oxygen-prox27-5-foto0008-w600.jpg This is the Auriga with brake sensor: http://cdn.propelbikes.com/image/data/product/main/tektroEsub.jpg Edited June 12, 201510 yr by trex
June 12, 201510 yr I thought you wanted a lightweight folding bike? otherwise, I would have recommended you the woosh zephyr-b.
June 12, 201510 yr I thought you wanted a lightweight folding bike? otherwise, I would have recommended you the woosh zephyr-b. Folding was supposed to be for my wife. I ended up folding because I could not find a suitable one that ticks all my boxes. Since the beginning my eyes were on Oxygen 11AH one, but OOS, I went to at least 6 dealers hunting for this. 13Ah was out of my reach because of the price!!! Damn!!! Although, I am happy with Volt metro, but I believe Oxygen would be satisfactory for me. Edited June 12, 201510 yr by tapash
