Best value 36v battery on the market now

I too had a chat with jimmy at insat yesterday a very nice person and a long talk re batteries cells etc it seemed it might be possible to recell my 10.4 ah (bottle battery with 50 Samsung high quality cells 3.2ah over the 36 ? existing.
giving me 16 ah, so I thought good I will proceed and arranged for pick up of my existing battery.
however when I looked at my battery 90mm dia 361 mm tall I could not see how more cells could actually fit in the case.
so contacted jimmy again and the most cells that could fit my case was 40
also my existing battery still has some a bit of life left, not sure if there dolphin battery fits in my frame.
so i meekly asked if i could cancel recelling /ups pick etc and this was ok a very nice company to deal with

After today's ride I may need to speak to Jimmy sooner then later, one of my 09's only managed 23 miles. On charge at the mo at some stage will have to open and check cell readings.
Interesting, my 09 generic Chinese celled pack is also suffering
Fine using it with a 350w bpm2 but gets warm when using with the gsm
I do wonder whether, unrestricted, if the kit draws a heck of a lot more than 18a. My battery from bms ought to manage 20a constant but..
I just wonder wether gsm really needs a 30a battery(when unrestricted) ? To avoid damaging cells.
Both of my 09's are Woosh ones and are capable of 20a continuous but see that later batteries now have a 28a bms.
Another thumbs up here for Jimmy at Insat, he recently supplied me with a 48V 22.3Ah battery at a blindingly good price with 2 years warranty. I can get 100 miles between charges out of my SuperV (I'm a pedaler) and am so pleased with his build that I am in the process of having another built in a Topeak saddlebag for those shorter rides.
They're the Boston Power cells squeezed into a standard rack-mount box Kirstin, It just fits in my backpack with a short lead to the front of the seat, but must weigh 5 to 6Kg. I'll get round to doing some pics and a build thread soon...too busy riding it at the moment!
Yes, I went with the dolphin style 16ah (using the 3200mah Samsungs)
I did this as I already have a dolphin and rail already so it seemed to make sense (I have two ebikes but just one battery )
Lipo is a whole different kind of chemistry mainly used by the radio controlled hobbyist (cars/drones/planes etc)
Lipo are lightweight and cheap (ish) but you need special chargers, they have no bms, they need to be very carefully looked after.
They are very much not a plug n play solution !
Type Lipo and fire into Google and see what you get!!
Without meaning to be impolite ib would suggest that, if you don't known what they are, it's not the best solution for you at this stage. Have a look at hobby king website and their faq

Been thinking about a Topeak saddlebag battery for a while......anymore details on the one you're having built.......bag size. cell size, number of cells, price etc ? if you don't mind.

I've sent him the large Topeak Aero bag (the largest one they do, with the expanding zip), as I currently have one as a breakdown bag and know it'll fit. I've asked Jimmy for 48V 10Ah, he reckons there can be more squeezed in there but I won't know final capacity or price until he's built and tested it...probably early next week?? I'll post up the results as and when...

So I loved it, wish I'd had more time to chat as it was my lunchbreak
So, I've covered a good 200 miles with my Jimmy pack
I should say it arrived well packaged, on time and with a full discharge chart at 10a load
"I would like to explain that the test was carried out with a constant 10A of current draw from the battery. This is a fairly high value for the full duration of the discharge period and for a battery to return almost all of its quoted capacity is an excellent result.
Manufacturers use 0.2C (in this case 3.2A current drain) to achieve higher capacity figures which we don't think is realistic." Said Jimmy
It is always on(so the button is redundant) as advised and expected.
In both my crank gsm mtb and my bpm hub powered hybrid bike it has performed very well. Clearly it is 16ah (or near enough) ,implied by the mileage I get and charging time after my standard commute.
No voltage sag that is perceptible. And I'm convinced that the 250w 18a gsm actually pulls loads more if de restricted
All in all very happy.
I'll report again in a year or so !
