So if you were in the market for a new 36v battery .........what would you reckon as the best value proposition right now ?

Let's say min requirements are 10ah and 20a continuous discharge.

Taking your subjective views on price /uk supplier / overseas suppliers / guarantees / customer services / size/shape etc etc ....

What would you buy ?

(And why - if you can be bothered! :)

I would contact the Company in London that re-celled my Batribike Battery in under a week and see what they have available , they will even build it to your requirements . If you have an existing one they will re-cell it for you .They are Martex Electronics , t/a INSAT International at Bounds Green , London N11 2UT .

If in a year or two I need to replace I would consider Insat for recelling they can fit pucker Panasonic 3450mah cells so my 14.5/15ah 09 battery could increase to 17.25ah.
For a complete new one Eclipse or Woosh for some guarantee, the HL/Halong 08 battery is a bit sleeker then the older 09 type. I have just paid £196 for a 11ah one from Oxydrive on a Cyber Monday deal but the battery is not a generic one.
On another recent thread someone mentioned that Oxydrive / H7 may have some old stock batts of about 17ah left over so may be worth a phone call to make an enquiry.

this 11.6AH bottle battery with charger costs £265 from woosh including shipping may not be the cheapest but I think you should consider it for its special qualities. It has high discharge (30A BMS) to support the BBS02 500W, lightweight, Samsung cells, and right side pull fitting for the smallest form factor. Woosh will probably knock £25 off if you don't need the charger.

What is a 'right side pull fitting' and how does it make it a smallest form factor ?
Does that make it different from other bottle batteries, like the one on my 8fun kit ?

It slips out sideways which is handy in small triangles.

with most downtube batteries, you lift the battery up or push the battery forward to remove. You need about 1 inch of space in front or above the battery to take it out of its cradle. With the right pull bottle, the battery swings out, like on the picture, you can fit it where space is very tight, like inside the triangle of this small size full sus bike. The side pull battery has 5-blade contactor, much more tolerant of jolting than XLR or spring loaded prongs.
The HL battery (case 08) would just about fit this bike but you would scratch the casing each time you pull it out, the square bottle (case 09) won't fit this bike. The features of this 11.6AH battery are the 3C cells and 30A BMS, designed for use with BBS02 36V 25A 500W and full sus bikes.

Yeah i can see the point of them now, i wasn't familiar with these batteries.

On a different note, i'm still wanting to see pics and details of your Giant Defy with the kit fitted.

I left my D5 with SWX02 wheel at woosh in Southend, they are going to fit the GSM to it for me to test before I decide which to keep. Back home Tuesday week.

Ok cool..... it'll be very interesting to me to see it and your views on which you prefer.
Still cant really make up my mind whether to fit a kit to mine or not.

Called up instat recellers. Spoke a hugely knowledge chap there called Jimmy. 20 mins talking 18650 cells,. C rates, internal resistance etc !! And still no price :)

Prices to follow but there is no doubt at all that he knows his onions and really cares about the quality of his work.

This does sound like a good route to use in the future, a uk base company with no need to worry about import and vat and other extras, also in case of the 08 or 09 batteries the chance to upgrade cells as more ah becomes available.

I was quoted 320 quid for a brand new battery, charger and rack.

That's 5p10s of 3200mah Samsung cells making a 16ah 36v pack

Also a upgraded best tech bms with 30a constant and a much higher burst (can t recall what)

With a one year gauranteee. Every cell individually tested and then pack tested (internal resistance and capacity matched)

Seems very good for what you get.

To recell my old dolphin case wasn't a whole lot cheaper

Trex, I tried to buy one of those batteries from Woosh some weeks ago but they really weren't keen to sell me one - presumably as I dont have a Woosh bike, I ended up speaking for about 1/2hr to Jimmy from INSAT - BOY CAN HE TALK !!! I then.......eventually, purchased a battery from him as he really seemed to know his onions.

Did you ring Andrew on his Oxydrive site? You might get a different answer from SYEBC.

In spoke to him but those 17ah have gone sadly

Just 15.4ah at 260 quid left. Not ideal for me as silver fish style but even more crucially it uses 2200mah Samsung cells and 70 of them rather than 50. Fair bit heavier which matters to me as I carry my pack in a backpack on my mtb crank conversion
