edit ..of course its a giant dirt e... with Yamaha motor... senility looms haha
Ride it until the men in white coats don't let you outside any more :)

Of all the bikes I have seen in the flesh the Yamaha powered Giants are the ready built ones that I like the most. Of course I prefer to roll my own but if I had the cash...

It is very unfortunate, but the more that people buy these Bosch products, the more Bosch will continue with their restrictive practices and basically rip people off.
If people decide to not buy Bosch (ie the market decides) then this pernicious practice will cease.
Me? I am 100% for the Chinese.

Don't actually agree. Ladas, Seat and dashia cars are much less expensive than their Audi and Renault equivalents. But people still buy these prestigious makes . Why is it? because they are snobs or because they expect they are buying reliability, refinement reputation, extra luxury? I think the latter.
The Bosch system and Yamaha and.similar are assuring quality. These companies deal only with first tier bike manufacturers .
I don't think that Bosch are on their uppers and they have a large following in mainland Europe. I would not expect them to reduce prices. I would expect that they will increase capacity so that in 3 years time we will be getting 750 to 1000 watthr units at the same prices as the current units.

North West.
Interesting 1boris, £200 for a 60 cell pack, giving 17.5Ah, no BMS but it just shows how over priced the Bosch battery packs are, even at half the price they would still be over priced.

This why I think that the Bafang Max Drive bikes will be a runaway success, as the BMS is in the motor, and the battery is just a battery from what I can tell.

Re-assuringly expensive is the phrase you are looking for I think!

The original English made TGA Electrobike from the 1980s on used a truck wiper motor in a crank drive position. It was only finally discontinued in about 2011, so about the longest lived e-bike model ever. TGA still exist, they've always been mobility vehicle makers but don't support the e-bike any more:

I rescued one of these, about to be skipped at my local dump. Info here http://www.pedelecs.co.uk/forum/threads/hub-motor-as-mid-drive-tga-upgrade.26539/. Am looking to replace the motor with a more efficient one, otherwise a good build, mine has hub drum brakes. Original motor made by Parvalux. TGA still had spare motors a couple of years ago when I enquired the spares position. Looking to buy a used Q100 - 201rpm for project or similar

Forgot to say there is a China to Lodz (Poland) express goods train, DHL were going to use it. I did wonder if it could reduce the shipping cost of a battery from the common suppliers we use. Shipping is a major part of the cost of importing 'one off' or small batches of batteries. Prevailing on bmsbatts to use this route maybe. Just thought surface transport of the batts may be cheaper. Train passes through Russia & takes about 1 week I read
Interesting about Musk going to a larger capacity cell, could be ideal for packs, if at a fair price, are they though Li ion or Li po4

Yes, I've been following your thread on that and was entering a first post for you about d8veh's conversion, but I deleted it when I found he'd just beat me to it.
