I'd have a stab at it, but I don't have any Bosch power tools Unless someone can donate one for me to experiment with? Wouldn't even need to have the whole battery, just the mounting plate part.Well volunteered, when will you have them ready for sale ?
There is clearly a demand for such adapters .................
don't forget the issue of public liability whenever you put something in the market. If the bike battery sets fire to their garage, you may be jointly liable.Can't help thinking it would be better to adapt the lawnmower to take a silverfish e-bike battery...
Ah, I wasn't thinking of selling, more of a hobby open source projectdon't forget the issue of public liability whenever you put something in the market. If the bike battery sets fire to their garage, you may be jointly liable.
Have you got a link? All the ones I can see are for 18V.The tool adapters are available on ebay for £7 - £8 a piece.
Looks like there are a lot of Bosch battery copies on eBay. Probably the factory in China that makes the real Bosch batteries also sells on the parts to others, who then fill them with generic cheap cells. I have seen some on eBay that are way too cheap to be any good.You can get a kit that is the battery holder, PCB, and internals for building your own. Thats £40 though.

That's a good point. I don't have the batteries to check.Are the 18v & 36v batteries a different footprint size ?
They have the same physical size but the polarisation key makes sure you can't use them in the wrong adapterAre the 18v & 36v batteries a different footprint size ?
Makes sense, you wouldn't want someone plugging a 36V pack into an 18 V tool. How easy would it be to mod the 18 V base to fit a 36 V pack?They have the same physical size but the polarisation key makes sure you can't use them in the wrong adapter
You can't because of the molding. The middle blade is the polarisation key. It is placed in slightly nearer to one side in the 18vMakes sense, you wouldn't want someone plugging a 36V pack into an 18 V tool. How easy would it be to mod the 18 V base to fit a 36 V pack?
No conventional BMS in these batteries;

Here's a strip down of the 18 V Bosch. It does seem to have tapping points for balancing etc. Looks like they have sleeveless cells in an insulating cylinder and then the balance wires are pushed up against the sides rather than soldered.No conventional BMS in these batteries;

Yes, interesting.Although some cells had died, most were still functional after more than 20 years and still quite well balanced.
The LFB haven't reported being called to car fires every two days either.Yes, interesting.
Lots of stuff about eBike fires in the news these days, not much about power tool fires.
