I am thinking of getting one of these , the speed chip is cheaper but most recommendations are for the badass dongle . They look identical . Has anyone bought the speed chip ? Are they any good ? Are they the same product as the badass ?

I got a Speedup dongle that fits inside motor housing, and is switched on and off via a sequence of button presses, so is completely invisible. It also keeps the correct speed and mileage on the display unit, for 137 euros, similar price to Badass.

Once you open the motor housing haven't you invalidated your warranty??
Sorry, its not in the motor Metal housing, just inside the plastic cover. I would remove the dongle, in the event of needing a repair.
Warning: I bought a speedchip tuner and have tried to configure and fit it but I can't get it to work. The seller - E Bike Tuning in Germany - don't answer my emails about a refund or exchange.

Yes I got a knowledgeable mechanic, who has successfully fitted several Shimano Steps dongles, to follow these instructions and it did not change the cut off at 15mph. Very frustrating!
Thanks again. I really want one which will turn on and off. I could use the warranty and risk sending it back I suppose? Hopefully they'll exchange it. I've never updated any software. Happy for you to try it as long as I can still get a refund or exchange if faulty

In case it's of use to anyone, I've fitted two ASA dongles. They're a doddle to fit and work straight out of the box. They even show the correct speed on the display. I would recommend them to anybody.

- Remove motor cover (about 4 screws)
- Unplug two connectors
- Plug in new connectors
- Plug in old connectors to the connectors on the dongle harness
- Reassemble.
