Away awhile. What is the best £599 bike these days?

I notice generally the price is creeping up over the £1100 mark for a fair few.

Have any budget bikes matured into the respectable bracket (bar the Giant suede;) )?

What is the best you get for spending £599 these days on a congestion busting ten mile commute?

Probably the lowish powered Powacycle Salisbury and Windsor LPX models with their Lithium battery at £599 is the normal answer.

However, 50cycles have the last of their eZee Liv stock on offer at £595, which is a very real bargain for a powerful bike, and probably the best option for the moment while stocks last. It's not discontinued, just the last of their stock. They were recently at £845, though I think a bit overpriced at that.

with all thats been said though, about them not being the supplier anymore, what about warranty and repairs...if one was bought off them where would you have to take it to for repairs ?

You're still entitled to the legal warranty support from the supplier, but in any case, the Liv has been a very reliable model, the motors and electrics especially so, and the bike part is just that, a bike. The later batteries are better than those of several months ago, so it's still a bargain at that price.

Given the choice at that price bracket, the Liv is the one I'd buy.

liv sold out now. the monopoly of kakhoff at 50 cycles is complete.
i did find the swiftness of the demise of ezee a bit disconcerting. alot of people must have bought the new torq and the f series bikes with all the praise on the website only to find within weeks that actually the agent had a lower opinion of the bikes than was evident on the website.thats business i suppose.

I agree the eZee Liv e-bike at £595 would have been a good buy... if it were still on sale. However, I recently purchased a Synergie Mistral off eBay for £450 delivered. You could be forgiven for thinking, that's too cheap for a lightweight Li-ion e-bike but, after one month and 300 miles, I'm very pleased with the quality, performance and range of my new e-bike.

ahh it is great to see the £600 market place full of options. I might organise a few test rides, the old suedeE is beginning to show signs of wear.

I would try and get in quick before the livs are all sold as apart from the powabyke, which is very heavy i dont think the others in the price range are as powerfull as the suede.

Hi Nigel, the new range of Powabykes will weigh in circa 26kg complete with battery. We are hoping to have the 1st couple of prototypes for Presteigne this year, I will confirm if this will happen nearer the time! Design wise they are looking much more like a conventional bike rather than the current bulky style.

FYI I won't be online for a few days so apologies if I don't reply to any questions posted while I am away.

PowaCycle Salisbury LPX

Hi Everyone,

I wanted to post my findings on the PowaCycle Salisbury LPX, retailing at 599. This is my first E-Bike and so far it has excelled all my expectations. From a full charge and in pedal assist I have twice now achieved a measured 24 mile range tackling quite severe hills and fairly strong headwinds - in other words, real world conditions. Excellent.

Complete with a set of panniers my example weighs a measured 22kg, of which 2.6kg is the 10.5Ah Lithium Polymer pack. To my eyes it looks great and it is proving a highly practical machine.

As to whether or not it is the best bike for 599 I cannot say, but I would like to think it must be a most worthy contender. Call me easily pleased, but I love it!

Pete.
