Are sellers taking over this forum?

Is it me, or does there seem to be a huge influx of sellers advertising their wares in nearly every post that I read?

I've only been a member of this forum for a year or so, but it appears that even a seemingly simple posting, can turn into a free for all for sellers to promote their goods.

Has the allowance of trading within posts, given license for sellers to take over the site?

Don't get me wrong, sellers need to make customers aware of their products to survive, but when does it get to the point of too much?

Personally, it's starting to p*** me off, and detracts from my enjoyment of this excellent forum.

I'm only being honest, and it probably doesn't bother most people.

You can always put a seller you don't want to see on your personal ignore list-
Settings (in menu at top right) - then click "edit ignore list" near bottom on left. Just add the username of the offender.

What intrigues me is that trade members have their own board here which non-trade people can't see. What goes on there? Do they share details of gullible punters... sorry good prospects?

Hi I think you are being unfair the reason you know we are trade sellers is because off the new format showing who we are
If you look at my postings I try to help with problems for free with my 5 years experience of electric bikes and for members on a budget i recommend a Chines suppler

and tel them what to buy and how to protect there payment

I've noticed this too, but the forum also seems to have been a bit quieter in the last few months, so maybe these promotional posts are just a bit more noticeable. Or perhaps it's just my perception...

Don't mind the sellers responding, sometimes it provides some good answers, and otherwise it's easy anough to skip over them.

Sometimes its annoying. But then you dont have to read it or scroll to the next post. Its hardly a hardship.

Its not like any of them ram products at you.

It only annoys me when someone asks a question not about a product and then an advertiser jumps in, or when its completly off topic.

Indeed, often the sellers (or suppliers) offer priceless information, occasionally there are off topic plugs. But it isn't too distracting... yet!

The forum is for people with an interest in all things electric bikey and so it is only natural that the persons who sell them, who probably started it as a hobby, are here and discussing latest developments, products, specs etc. I think there is nothing wrong with it myself and I have bikes already but for those who are looking to buy it must be a fantastic opportunity for everyone to tell them about what's on offer.

Generally, I find the trade plugs helpful. They seem to be honestly written and mention pitfalls, so I am content with things as they are.

I agree with the posting-it is up to the trade to keep all postings relevant,it is equally annoying as a registered and paying trader to announce say an upgrade to an urban bike and find some other trader taking the thread off to a bike completely remote from the original model,usually to their own niche product.
I think the golden rule is keep it relevant.
Kudos is a new business but as we mature the need to announce new products or events will diminish,I find myself making less postings now than when we started.

I think generally this forum has the right balance. It must be very frustrating being a dealer having to put up with so many dithering members asking the same questions over and over again ... and those post where someone wants a bike for onroad/offroad/underwater with variable frame sizes so it can be ridden by various members of the family and the old granny who lives next door - oh yeah .. and it HAS to have a throttle (preferrably red)

I have no problem with dealers providing they keep to the thread.
We had one dealer peddling (pun intended) his Bosch system and criticising the tried and tested Panasonic system. This is not what the forum is about, people often don't realise its a dealer and think its someone giving an honest contribution which this dealer was not!

I've got a Scubapro Semi Dry Suit which I failed miserably to sell on ebay due to a misunderstanding about the working of the zip. I was hoping for another £50 for my bike fund. Looks like I might have to go diving just to prove that the zip DOES work! or I could take it on my Canal adventure and have a swim in the canal. I wonder .. is it allowed to swim in Canals?

I don't think the statistics agree, as I write there are 81 users online, 9 members and 72 guests and 4328 members. Seems pretty health to me.

all i can say is that as a newbie here i find the dealers very helpful, all of them, they are wonderful individuals, who give up there free time to help people like me.

they are the source of some golden nuggets of information for a newbie like me, and thanks to them, i have a forum i can visit to find that help.

may these beacons of electric biking, guide me by their light into the fields of happiness, fulfilled by the visions of me freewheeling along watching the sunset come down over the downs.

without these gods, we would have nothing but darkness.
