Building a pushbike from scratch isn't so hard, a few tubes, a hacksaw, a jig, and a welding torch is about all that's needed.

I get the impression the German bike trade is a bit like ours used to be - quite a few shops have their own brands.

An ebike frame could even be simpler as the bottom bracket is more straightforward.

This bike is 'budget' inasmuch as any Bosch bike is, so at the original asking price the seller will have been getting most of his money back.

According to my German engineer cousin Klaus (and it seems confirmed on a couple of German e-bike forums), LIQ bikes – or at least the LIQROCK the OP bought - is actually both made and assembled in Germany by FOCUS, so it can’t be all bad. At least the frame is genuine TIG*, rather than a TIT* as R&M appear to be.

It would appear the LIQROCK does have some genuine claim to actually being manufactured in Germany.

*To use RobF’s own acronym system, TIG = Tigged in Germany, TIT = Tigged in Taiwan.

As the bike is ally, it's less likely to have been made in a back of shop workshop due to the extra difficulty of working with that material.

Most of the tubes are circular or plain ovals, which are cheaper than fancy shaped extrusions.

Liq bikes could well be the budget brand of Focus.
