    Chris Froome wins Giro d'Italia

Chris Froome's win of the Giro d'Italia today makes him only the third man ever to hold all three major cycle racing titles at the same time. Certainly offsets the current disappointments in football and cricket. .

The Civil Service getting it very right.

We don't seem to get many opportunities to praise the Civil Service in their difficult jobs, but here's an exception. I'd been finding it impossible to get access to messages from HMRC to me, despite their incredibly secure multi-layer logging in procedures, so I used a contact link to relay...

E-bikes to be legalised in New York at last

After many years of them being illegal though widely used in the City of New York, e-bikes with the usual USA 20 mph assist will finally be permitted soon. But once again, no throttles allowed: Information link .

    Driverless Car kills again

A driverless car being used during a trial in Arizona has killed a woman cyclist. Previously also in the USA one killed it's driver. Another has skimmed a cyclist so close that the test drive had to be aborted, and many demonstrations have resulted in a standby driver having to hurriedly grab...

    German e-bike market success

In 2017 almost three-quarters of a million e-bikes were sold in Germany, one in five of all bicycle sales. If only we in the UK could enjoy that success, here it's probably only one in forty at most. All the detail on this link .

    The Mystery Disappearance

Whatever happened to whistling? Those like myself of advanced years will remember when whistling was heard every day in many circumstances, workmen would routinely whistle as they worked and Snow White's seven dwarves even sang that as a song. Milkmen and other delivery people would whistle...

Report: Cycling benefits for the elderly

The BBC TV news today carries a report on a study of a group of keen 64 to 82 year old cyclists. None of them are e-bikers though, they do their riding in the Surrey hills the hard way. As well as the obvious fitness benefits we'd all expect, it's claimed blood tests show their immune systems...

Speed Pedelecs, Toys for White Boys!

This was said at an LEV conference: Burkhard Stork, director of ADFC, the EU’s largest cyclists’ association, stated with a great deal of verve: “Speed pedelecs are toys for white boys, not a means of transport for commuting. They do not add anything to sustainable transport.” This weird view...

Urgent (!) Safety Recall on car

I've just received an urgent safety recall from the DVLA and Mitsubishi for my specific L200 pickup model. Apparently if the drivers airbag goes off it fires schrapnel into the driver. I knew they resented losing the war but this is taking a grudge a bit far. Thing is, it's almost 12 years...

E-MTBs for Kids, but not here.

Bike makers at Eurobike will be targeting kids from 11 years old or even 8 years old in one case as a new e-MTB market with reduced power. I think that's great news. But in the excessively governed UK that can't happen because we have a ridiculous 14 years minimum age limit. The fun will be...

Cycled around the world in 79 days!

Great achievement by Mark Beaumont, he has cycled around the world in under 79 days, matching his aim to beat 80 days (and not a battery in sight). How he could stand 240 miles a day with 16 hours in the saddle beggars belief, I've never exceeded 80 miles and more usually 60 miles maximum. .

England win 2017 Football World Cup

It was the under 20 world cup, but still an England mens team triumphing, beating Venezuela 1 - 0 in the final. I announced their reaching the semi-final in this thread, but thought the win worthy of headlining in a separate announcement. The future for the Football League and England's main...

England in Football World Cup Final

OK, so it's the under 20 team, but so what, why age discriminate? Well done England's footballers who have achieved this, first time an English men's team have been in the final for 51 years. The Football League's future is looking brighter. Link .
