Bike Purchase Advice - 22 Mile (one way) Commute

You should be able to put a Badass dongle on the Cube, which will scramble the display, but so what? You soon get used to working out the correct speed, if that's important to you. The Cube in the link has the small Purion display, so plenty of handlebar real estate for a Garmin - and lights...

Bike Purchase Advice - 22 Mile (one way) Commute

Speed is up to you. Most Bosch bikes, including the Charger, can be derestricted. Alternatively, it looks as if 50 Cycles will sell you a factory Speed Pedelec, which would cut the motor at 28mph. Worth bearing in mind either bike is not 'tuned' in any way, it just carries on assisting above...

Bike Purchase Advice - 22 Mile (one way) Commute

Not 'built for speed' as such, but much of that would depend on the rider and in this case the motor. Steel plus Rohloff plus heavy duty wheels and other components does equal a bit more weight. If you think about it, commuting and touring requirements are similar - the bike needs to be...

Bike Purchase Advice - 22 Mile (one way) Commute

Seems a shame not to spend all your money, so how about a Rohloff gear bike with a front wheel conversion? The conversion is the easy bit. Not so many Rohloff bikes around, but Thorn would be my choice. Top quality, steel bikes, and a proper bespoke testing and fitting service if you can make...

A great example of how online purchasing of MTB E-BIKE can be good for you and your local bike shop.

It's a business decision that you as the entrepreneur has to take. There is no right or wrong, you take the risk and gather the reward - or otherwise - that flows from your decision. Ebike sales seem to be rising slowly, and I suspect we all support consumer choice. Hopefully there will be...

    Hollowtech Crank

Seems to me unlikely painting any fluid on those cranks would have prevented them shearing. The axle failures are a bit more complicated, but I reckon the tube is simply not strong enough as manufactured to resist the various forces applied to it. Painting it with something is not going to...

A great example of how online purchasing of MTB E-BIKE can be good for you and your local bike shop.

I do not expect people to 'support ebikes as fully as they should'. As I've said several times, the consumer has a choice to make. All I'm asking for is a bit of realism, a local shop loses out when an online purchase is made. I've bought bikes online (one), locally, and from further afield...

    Bosch battery terminal corrosion

The battery connection on downtube Bosch bikes does seem to attract dirt, so I doubt transporting the bike on the back of the car has anything to do with it. The connection on my bike gets dirty, despite it only being used on road and well made cycle paths. I give it a clean and a squirt with...

    Hollowtech Crank

Hard to see what the user could have been done to prevent those catastrophic failures. No amount of lube will stop a crank shearing, and even with the broken axles it doesn't looks as if corrosion played any part. Possible the axle somehow seized, but once again lubing the tube internally...

A great example of how online purchasing of MTB E-BIKE can be good for you and your local bike shop.

As a - largely - online retailer it would be odd if you did agree. I have no problem with anyone buying online and using the local bike shop for maintenance. But please let's not pretend a consumer doing so is supporting the local shop as fully as they could. The ebike market is evolving...

A great example of how online purchasing of MTB E-BIKE can be good for you and your local bike shop.

I'm pleased the OP is sorted, but I fail to see how buying online is good for the local bike shop. Not that it should be - the consumer has sovereignty and makes his or her choices. Even if the OP had bought the bike from a local shop, the other local shops would have missed out, so as a...

Bike Purchase Advice - 22 Mile (one way) Commute

There are now millions of Bosch motors on ebikes around the world - far, far more than any other motor. The failure rate needs to be taken in that context. It's still hard to assess, but I suspect it's lower than any other motor. A money no object bike for the OP would be a Riese and Muller...

How does that rack work? No visible means of support

The Klakhoff version I saw looked to be steel. The Wingee is a slightly different design, having pannier bag rails, but no luggage platform. https://www.herkelmannbikes.com/shop/wingee/

How does that rack work? No visible means of support

And to answer the OP, the mudguard is steel. Which makes this a heavy way to have a mudguard and a rack, even if the rack only has one strut each side, Hence it's never really caught on for pushbikes.

Haibike sDuro HardSeven SL 2015 Yamaha (7 Month 1600 Miles)

I agree, your bike is taking more torque than the lad's when you outclimb him. When I said fit rider, I meant someone who maybe competes at a decent level or even a pro - everyone is using the same transmission bits, give or take. The transmission load from a pro sprinter going for the line is...

Riese and Muller Charger GX Rohloff

About 3,000 miles now and the bike continues to perform as it should. I motivated myself to perform the first oil change on the Rohloff hub. It's a bit more of a faff than Shimano hubs because you suck the oil out, put in some runny cleaning oil, do a few miles, suck that out, then refill with...

Haibike sDuro HardSeven SL 2015 Yamaha (7 Month 1600 Miles)

I'm not convinced legal crank ebikes put more strain on the drivetrain in comparison to a fit rider - which any drivetrain will be designed to handle. Put another way, me + Bosch ebike motor = about the same amout of strain on the drivetrain as a fit pusbike cyclist. As ever, riders report...

First hand experience of Riese & Muller quality?

I'm pleased with my R&M Charger so far, although the main reason for buying R&M was because I wanted a Rohloff hub gear and twin batteries. Not much, if any, choice for a bike of that spec. Most people who have seen the bike are impressed with it. Someone who described himself as a welder...

Crank Drive - Stronger chain necessary? Gear change sensor worth having?

Bosch crank bikes cut out immediately you pause pedalling which means there's no bother changing hub gears.
