    New Cyclamatic

This thread remind me of an old economics O-level question. Why are television manufacturers large and television repairers small? I have also seen many new to ebikes posters who predict all manner of things such as batteries the size of a fag packet that will do 100 miles, and in this case...

    Where do I start?

Scott and Bergamont are both good brands. Scott is more established in the UK, but I doubt there will be anything in it quality-wise. Most child seats bolt to the seat tube, leaving the seat the child sits on in free air. This is done to give a bit of suspension, a seat bolted direct to a...

    NuVinci 360 gearing

Gates - who make the belt - quote life as 'about twice that of a chain'. Not too clever when one is £100 and the other is a tenner, although I suspect Gates are being conservative and many owners will get longer life. The belts are OK on good surfaces, but not so clever on tracks because if a...

    Where do I start?

I've never ridden a Nevo, but I doubt moving the battery a few inches - which is all it is - further up the down tube makes any difference to the centre of gravity. I expect that girder frame will be rock solid, so the down tube probably weighs more than the battery anyway.

    Where do I start?

A step-through will usually have the battery on the carrier which can complicate child seat mounting. A seat which clamps to the seat tube may fit, although clearance above the battery could be tight. The money no object answer is the Riese and Muller Nevo, a step-through with a down tube...

    Shimano Steps W012 warning message

Makes little sense to me. There may be something lost in translation, but to me the crank is the bit the pedals screw into. Hard to see how one or both could be installed in the 'wrong direction', and even if the cranks weren't installed properly, there's no electrical connection to the motor...

    Bafang Max Drive bikes

Some ISIS bottom brackets used small bearings which didn't last well. I've no idea of the quality of the ISIS bracket in the Bosch motor. Both square taper bottom brackets and derailer gears are cheap and durable which is why both are still in widespread use...

    Bafang Max Drive bikes

I could have added a decent quality properly maintained square taper will last many years. The problem with ISIS is its relatively small diameter. My two have been fine, but I believe the small size of ISIS is one of the reasons why it has not been widely adopted on push bikes.

    Bafang Max Drive bikes

One of the spec sites mentioned ISIS for the Bafang Max Drive. This link isn't clear to me. Matters not, if anything square tapers last longer. http://www.szbaf.com/en/components/component/motor/mm-g33250.html

    Bafang Max Drive bikes

The Bafang Max Drive looks very much like a first generation Bosch crank motor knock-off, it even shares the slightly unusual choice of an ISIS bottom bracket. Nothing wrong with that, the Japanese and latterly Koreans and Chinese have been copying older European products for years. Other...

Bafang 750w Mid drive on 13 Incline Alpha 27.5" MTB

Worth having a think about if you really want a 750w motor. It has more power than most of would use, and I believe a couple of owners on here run theirs 'turned down'. Your Oxygen kit is known to be perky - do you want more grunt than that? I like crank drives, but when running two ebikes...

    Insulting Message from 50 Cycles

Not that I've seen, so I can imagine you find the incoming scud from Scott perplexing. It makes even less sense when you consider you operate in different markets. Kit building - usually on a budget - which is your strength is nothing to do with 50C who only deal with higher end ready built...

Brexit, actually the UK has come out rather well.

Usual - and continuing - patronising 'you don't understand' claptrap from the remainers. While they fiddle, Rome, or rather Brussels, if not quite burning is beginning to smoulder.

    Insulting Message from 50 Cycles

There are many occasions when d8veh has been dismissive and rude to those who do not share his view. Doesn't bother me, but it's a bit rich for him to now play the honest broker.

    Scott e-Sub Sport 20

You are certainly on the right lines. The Scott - or something like it - gives you the best chance of a trouble-free commute. Most of the £2k-ish Bosch trekking bikes are similar - same motor and standard decent quality bike bits elsewhere. Cube are sometimes a hundred or two cheaper, so they...

Trek powerfly 9 FS or Levo FSR comp - what would you go for?

A 22t Bosch ring would give you 55t equivalent, with a 10t rear that equates to about 85rpm for 40mph. Much more doable for some, although I cannot imagine being able to push such a tall gear at what is still a relatively high cadence. The amount of assist is another consideration. Typically...

Trek powerfly 9 FS or Levo FSR comp - what would you go for?

Your current gearing means a cadence of under 100rpm to get 33mph. While the number 100 rolls off the tongue, it takes some doing to spin bicycle pedals that many times every minute - as you have discovered. You have no chance of adding 40rpm to your current 'very high' cadence to reach 48mph...

Trek powerfly 9 FS or Levo FSR comp - what would you go for?

Pedalling a bicycle at 48mph is all but impossible. Even with a 52t dinner plate front ring, you would need a cadence of about 140rpm.

SRAM ex 1 & new bike

Fair enough, but you did ask. Tend to agree about WD40, which is why I use GT85. Although WD vs GT could be a thread in itself. One of the guys on the Global Cycling Network video channel uses my method with WD40. That is for a road biking where lubrication requirements may be less onerous...

Oxygen S-CROSS ST vs Momentum Model T

I agree with the others - the Momentum is less powerful. It may be sufficient for your needs, but you might appreciate the extra grunt of the Oxygen riding home after a day's toil. The standard battery ought to do the round trip, but if money allows my suggestion would be to get the bigger...
