I don't need to look up the meaning of that word, I ain't that stoopid. I spent 13 years as a self employed mobile mechanic, every Saturday I used to work with my MOT man moving different cars around, funnily enough I was able to do this without either driving off the end of the ramp or skidding...

I'm not recommending any body do anything they don't feel comfortable with. And I'm not saying rim brakes are better than disk brakes, but. If well adjusted and maintained rim brakes will provide enough force to lock up a wheel. If I had disk brakes on the same bike doesn't this mean I just skid...

I've been commuting with my mid drive for around 18 months now and I'm not sure but I think my friends were more impressed when I drove a v8 Lexus. I agree, a mid drive does need a degree of mechanical sympathy to get the most out of it. I disagree that a 750w mid drive won't do well over 30mph...

Help! Mid Hub motor or front wheel motor?

A few things spring to mind. Why have you ruled out rear wheel motors? Do you really need a 1000 watt + motor? 30 mph isn't fun on an old push bike. I would find a local supplier who can advise before you buy. I've not used them but I believe Whoosh have a good reputation...

I guess you could easily achieve the op's desire of 30 mph with a 750w mid drive motor, a little more expensive than hub motors but hey, it's only money. Rim brakes will stop you but they need some adjustment as they wear, also travelling at 30 means they wear fast which results in worn out wheels.

It is interesting how many e bike batteries are NOT locked.

The locks are closer to £6, I find that more reassuring.

Big battery or small battery plus a spare?

1 big (20 ah / 960 wh) battery for me, I usually charge between 30 - 80 % with a full cycle every 8 charges. This means I only charge the battery every 3 days or so rather than every day.

Seeking Advice on Affordable Ebike for 20-Mile Daily Commute (£500-£600 = Budget)

Hi Mate, have you changed your forum user name from 'pinhead'? Also, depending upon your perspective, £600 could be considered a large or even unobtainable amount of cash.

Seeking Advice on Affordable Ebike for 20-Mile Daily Commute (£500-£600 = Budget)

That philosophy pretty much describes how I've lived my life up to yet, also gratitude that I'm physically able to get out of bed in the morning. Anyway, back to these £600 e-bikes. I paid £500 just for a battery. https://custombuilt-ebikes.co.uk/product/48v-rear-rack-ebike-battery-20ah/

Do police even bother to check if an e-bike is legal?

I'm sure the police would check if the bike is involved in an incident.

Why is so much illegal 'commuting' not policed ?

There are too many people committing too many crimes, most of which are a lot more serious than traffic offences, and not enough police. Simples.

Following on from my introduction to this forum I have questions

Are you sure the charger is suitable for the batteries, maybe the first owner had to replace the original charger?

Help! What COMPLETELY LEGAL Ebike will get me up hills?

Nice looking bike that is similar to my own 20 year old hybrid bike, not wanting to hijack the thread but is your frame aluminium? Google says ali frames have a life span and should be replaced after 10-15 years, is this true? My advice to the original poster would probably be to buy a new...

I know the bike has carbon front forks and an alloy frame. Are through axles as found on quick release wheels?

Cheers for the replies, looking at the Whoosh web site it says.... Hub kits cannot be fitted to carbon fiber forks and frames with thru-axle bolts.

    Advice needed.

A colleague has asked me to convert his new to him Specialized hybrid bike into an e-bike, I want to build him a road legal and hassle free bike so figured a rear hub motor would be the way to go. When I built my bike I wanted to purchase from a UK based supplier (Custom Built Ebikes based in...

    New bike advice

My derailleur is on a 20 year old Giant bike and was, I guess, fitted at the factory. It now has to cope with a mid drive motor and I must say the gear shift sensor works well to cut power, it rarely causes the chain to crunch...
