    Oxygen E mate MTB13AH

The bike is still running very well, I'm pleased to say. The issues I had with it have been resolved, but I'm not sure what was done to fix it! I suspect a new controller was fitted. Anyhoo, it's sailing along fine. Last week, because of the very dry April, I took it along some bridleways and...

ICE recumbent, E-trike or conventional pedal power options

Would you consider flogging the Dual Drive wheel separately? Do you have the shifter for it too?

What are the major factors that persuaded you to get an electric bike?

I got one for several reasons: 1) I really don't like driving 2) Environmental reasons 3) I enjoy cycling 4) Allied to 3), I can take many different routes to work, some of which are very picturesque bridleways taking in a castle and sheep pastures. I choose not to pay the parking fees at work...

Which bike will completely replace my car

I do a similar length commute - without the main road stretch - on my unrestricted Oxygen eMate in just under 30 minutes on setting 5 of 18. Were I to up the power, I'd do it a little quicker. It has seen me through a winter commuting season, although there was a water ingress problem, now...

    New Ebike shaft drive system

Zerocycles - now long gone - sold shaft-driven, unpowered bikes a few years back, but they didn't catch on.

    I see your cheating then!

My favourite 'not cheating' moment was when I was gradually overtaken by a group of mature riders on road bikes in all the lycra gear whilst out riding in the local countryside. I was on an unpowered Orbit Orion with hub gears, flat bars and a stem raiser. Totally unaerodynamic, yet I was easily...

    Bike workshop stand

That's the same as the ones Aldi & Lidl occasionally sell. Mine has lasted me well, although I would have preferred the QR clamp rather than the screw one I have. The front wheel arm on mine is not that robust, so treat it with care.

Not sure if I should Convert or Buy off the shelf

In the last 18 months or so I have had two converted bikes and two off the shelf. By far the best of the four is my off-the-shelf Oxygen eMate MTB. The much cheaper Woosh Sirocco fell apart under me gradually and the two converted bikes conked out with dodgy controllers. I've had issues with...

    Haibike sduro hardseven

Thanks Woosh. I'm not sure it's still made & it wouldn't be man enough for the large panniers I use on tours. Too late for this particular bike anyway, someone bit his hand off.

    Haibike sduro hardseven

Someone near me was selling a 6/16 Haibike Sduro 9 with about 130 miles on the clock for £1200. At RRP that's a pretty steep cost per mile. I debated whether to go for it, but the lack of (essential for me) pannier mount options put me off.

Long-Term, Reliable FW Kit - does it exist?

Woosh, I was actually tempted by the secondhand Karoo that was up for grabs recently. I have said on other threads that you seem to be heading in the right direction with your newer models. I don't think I give my bikes a hard time. They have been my commuting tools on an undulating ride of...

Long-Term, Reliable FW Kit - does it exist?

That seems to be my conclusion too, sadly. The fact that there are so many caveats - mentioned on this thread & many others - about the user needing to take extra precautions underlines this. It is relatively new market, I'll concede, but waterproofing really should be a fundamental...

Long-Term, Reliable FW Kit - does it exist?

Whilst I take the point that it is up to the installer to ensure their kit is installed in a waterproof state, I would counter that it is up to the manufacturer to do a lot more to make their kits much more watertight. I'll admit that the rain that caused my latest issues was heavy and...

Long-Term, Reliable FW Kit - does it exist?

There you go too salesy on me, I'm afraid. I'm looking quite specifically for a kit & off you go on a tangent trying to flog a bike...

Long-Term, Reliable FW Kit - does it exist?

Thanks Woosh. My latest woes are with a rear hub drive/integrated controller machine. I've also had issues with a Electric Bike Conversions FW kit and a Woosh Sirocco CDL mid-drive machine. Hence my frustration and desire to find a truly waterproof kit. Funnily enough, all the displays have been...

Long-Term, Reliable FW Kit - does it exist?

Every ebike I have had so far, whether it be off the shelf or conversion, has had electrical issues. I am getting a little tired of things going wrong on my main form of commuting transport. So, is there a kit that offers VERY good waterproofing and long-term reliability? I don't want one that...

    Thule High-Level Twin Bike Rack

This is a high quality Thule rack - only it doesn't fit my current car! Designed to lift bikes high up over the rear of the car, it negates the need for a lightboard as the bikes are lifted high enough to clear the lights on most cars. It's quite a large beast suited to cars Golf size and...
