Ebike still legal if I run 36V motor at 48V and limit speed to 15mph?

@Woosh The argument ist that it might *NOT* be compliant with all the norms, since the ability to change the maximum speed could be considered an offroad-switch. One of the definitions of 'switch' is: "a program variable which activates or deactivates a certain function of a program"

Thank you very much for your assessment, everyone. Could you share your opinion on whether or not it would be illegal to run a 36V 250W motor at 48V, as long as I the speed to 15.5mph?

I assume his point is that they test and certify the whole bike as a complete system. And the LCD is part of that system.

Ebike still legal if I run 36V motor at 48V and limit speed to 15mph?

So what about removing the Kunteng display from my handlebars? The controller can run without display when you short 2 wires of the display-connector.

Ebike still legal if I run 36V motor at 48V and limit speed to 15mph?

Well, if any of us have any kind of serious accident, the insurances will definitely have a very close look, because there is a lot of money involved and they don't like to pay tens or hundreds of thousands in compensation and repairs. I really don't want to ruin my financial future with...

Ebike still legal if I run 36V motor at 48V and limit speed to 15mph?

I was thinking of changing the max speed setting in my Kunteng controller setup (with the handlebar-display) - which is technically not an off-road switch.

Thank you for the suggestions. I talked to a bike mechanic yesterday and he advised me not to buy a Bosch system for professional heavy duty use, because the repair-cost and general running cost would be to high. Although they are certainly a loot of fun! I also don't like the idea that i...
