eMTB owners photo and ride thread.

Little ride from a couple of days ago, 30% battery remaining. Life's hard in the mountains ;)

    Easy it's called cider. ;)

Help me find my right mechanical partner please ;)

This in spades, all of the talk in various threads about greasing bearings regularly etc is all symptomatic of inferior components. I have a 10 year old mountain bike with well over 50k miles on it, although it is not now on its original wheels due to "real" off road riding it has never had a...

    Very disappointing start....

I could have (and have had momentarily as I don't use Strava when riding but my other app syncs after the ride then I change it) all of the KOMs in this area of the Alps when I do a fast ride. Not so quick today with 1700m of climbing in a 47km ride but there would still have been some trophies...

Make your Strava rides ebike rides, do not interfere with peoples hard earned achivements!

Sense Check on Bosch Battery Charging

Not necessarily, it could be waiting for a signal from the battery before turning on. This would eliminate sparking when you plugged it in.

Introducing myself, also bought a Kudos stealth...

One of these days I'm going to call in their factory showroom and test one of their bikes. They are only about 10km from me and over the winter built a new showroom in the middle of Wörgl.

still not to sure what to make of bosch ebike system

Having stripped it to a bare frame and motor for transport I think the frame is very heavy, the fork is maybe 1.5 - 2kg heavier than a good Rockshok. The wheels aren't too bad and the rest really is diminishing returns.

still not to sure what to make of bosch ebike system

That sounds like a good plan, my MTB is 11kg unpowered, with something that small and a reasonable battery 15kg should be easilly achievable. A good hybrid with solid forks and road orientated tyres would be considerably lighter. Biggest problem I have with the Haibike is the weight of it, I'm...

still not to sure what to make of bosch ebike system

That does look a bit steep, the constant battle to keep the front wheel down while stopping the back spinning is a major challenge on that! I suspect either of us would kill a BPM in short order! There are no hub motor e bikes going up the mountains off road around here. You do occasionally see...

still not to sure what to make of bosch ebike system

I don't dispute any of that. As I said he stalled because he was in too high a gear when he still had two lower gears available. Off out now to ride my bike on some real hills with 32f x 40r gearing (not on max power though);)

still not to sure what to make of bosch ebike system

That is all well and good and is fully understood but the 11mph is irrelevant if that is all the power that is available then that is terminal velocity. It is for me more about the second part of the OP where he says he didn't get up a steeper hill. No where do we have any indication of the...

still not to sure what to make of bosch ebike system

Likewise for my Yamaha, I know a crank drive is not the best in all situations but I still cannot understand why the lower gears are not used. It is like trying to drive a car up a slow twisting turning climb in fourth gear, it will not do it. If you have a crank drive let the gears help, if you...

    Very disappointing start....

Can't say how insane I find overtaking cars on the inside. It is one of the major causes of serious accidents for cyclists. Cars and their passengers aren't expecting it ( and nor should they be ).They will pull in towards the kerb without looking to let cars going the other way pass in a tight...

still not to sure what to make of bosch ebike system

But if it is a hill that causes you problems regularly then you should get your gearing changed so that you do have a low enough first gear. Having said that I'm still not sure the Bosch is the correct power unit for the OP.

still not to sure what to make of bosch ebike system

You want to give me a Rio to test in the Alps against a Yamaha Haibike and see which I can kill first ;-) . Bearing in mind I can sustain 200W but still find myself in 32 front x 40 rear gearing going up inclines at 7kmh ( not using highest power levels to keep range sensible). Of course Yamaha...

still not to sure what to make of bosch ebike system

As I said earlier he is still two gears above his lowest, why worry about 11mph it's irrelevant. As d8veh says it's all about torque, lower the gearing and sit there spinningyour pedals in bottom gear and torque multiplication will get you there. I was spinning up an Alpine climb this morning at...

still not to sure what to make of bosch ebike system

So you still have two more gears to go at then, big difference between 26 and 34 teeth. You might well find with all of the electrical noise that your wireless computer won't work.

Just enjoy it, it will get better. :)
