    Argos Cheap Ebike £360

Correct, that's my point of view. Lol anybody looking to nick ebikes knows whether or not it is an ebike regardless of the battery/controller being 'hidden' in frame. So then I have to carry TWO batteries around? If I'd bought the bike I'd be upgrading it with a KT display/controller and...

    Argos Cheap Ebike £360

The other ebike that's now sold out had a hailong on it, that was a deal-maker I think for a lot of people including me. I also did look at this bike too however do not want a custom battery.

    Argos £245 folding Bike Improvements

This is also how the cheap Voltmeter/Ammeters you see on ebay calculate the current, they use I=V/R to display current across a shunt. I built one few yrs back to measure the current consumed by my slot car track for LED strips, Arduinos and other accessories and wired a GND / 5V / 12V busbar...

    Argos £245 folding Bike Improvements

@saneagle - what is the controller spec for the other red/black Argos ebike you bought or is that for next weekend? :) ? It looks like it was a great deal and I kinda wished I'd bitten now ;-)

Putting a small amount of solder across shunt allows more current to flow so at lower speeds so you'll get better torque/performance going up hills.

Samsung - are we just paying for the name?

As a 'rough guide' to tell where your battery is at using a multimeter it gives you a rough indication of what capacity you might have left, I've used it to decide whether or not to charge the battery for shorter trips so it has some use.

Samsung - are we just paying for the name?

It's a 52V battery so 58.8V when it was new. I last fully charged in April and it was reading 58.6V, very little deterioration in capacity but then again the ebike has only done a few hundred miles and is used mostly used for pottering about with son or local trips in dry.

Samsung - are we just paying for the name?

My £500 52V 17.5Ah Hailong with class 1 LG cells is now over 3 yrs old and still charges to 58.6 volts (I have taken great care of it and when storing it). As mentioned above - you get what you pay for...

Cyclist fights off gang of robbers trying to steal his e-bike

Mental, I wonder how many times he's had that chain in the nuts...? When I was a kid was a fan of 'The Master' TV show with Lee Van Cleef. We made shuriken stars that were dangerous as ****, 4 really heavy duty sturdy razor blades and black tape was all it took to make one with 8 very sharp...

Cyclist fights off gang of robbers trying to steal his e-bike

What we need is quick release chain, not quick link but a proper instant release, love to see the face on the moped cnts when you start swinging a bike chain at them after being threatened with an angle grinder...self-defence innit...

Battery safety and reputable sellers - do these concepts exist?

I would bin the multimeter, you are way more likely to electrocute yourself or set something on fire than you ebike battery catching fire. :( I would edit your post title to include "safe multimeter use..." too.

E-bikes to be banned by employers after dozens of battery fires TfL, NHS trusts and other organisations

They need to consider other charging models. Let me rent the ebike for a nominal charge of maybe £5 a day then charge me on the power I use on top of that. When my battery is getting low I go to nearest battery/bike station and just swap out the battery for a fresh one in the rack.

E-bikes to be banned by employers after dozens of battery fires TfL, NHS trusts and other organisations

A choice to hire for the day would suit me better so I can go for a ride at lunch then cycle around the parks or wherever takes my fancy in the evening then dump it back near hotel or restaurant. If you're cycling across London as a commute then yes I may well want to jump on an overland...
