    DIY Mechanical Dongle

I sorry to bring this thread back on topic but i never intended opening the legality of increasing the cutoff speed debacle, I mean how many times dose this come up and has anyone had there opinion changed by other people’s comments, probably not. Anywho, my bike is now back to standard. Fun as...

    DIY Mechanical Dongle

So before removing my contraption I thought I’d bike the 6 miles to work this AM at full tilt (25mph) strangely I didn’t see a sole let alone a police man. Probably because at 5:30am nobody’s daft enough to be on a disused railway, just me and the rabbits Needless to say, for the 1/4 mile of...

    DIY Mechanical Dongle

Wow that’s a big project in more sense than one, just to loose the belt  There’s no load on either pulley and an elastic band would do the job. The amount of work in making a toothed brake disc (effectively a circular saw blade) at 160mm, the corresponding gear would need to be 257.6mm dia...

    DIY Mechanical Dongle

I turned the pulleys from some nylon off cuts. now I’m thinking I’ll modify the design by scraping the existing sensor pulley and making two quickly interchangeable pulleys, one the same size as the wheel pulley to give a true speed display and cutoff and a second pulley, larger to deceive the...

    DIY Mechanical Dongle

Some folks appear to have missed the point of my experiment. I just wanted to see if it was possible to have my display show kph but actually be doing mph, simply out of curiosity and nothing more. I didn’t intend to raise the “legality “ issue, just thought some may find it interesting from an...

    DIY Mechanical Dongle

That’s a coincidence, it was an Aldi £4.99 job that I’d used to confirm my Bosch display reading. I’d had it two days and it packed in the first time it got wet. You’re singing the merits of Apple’s when I’m talking about oranges, that’s not an argument I’m going to get into :p:rolleyes:

But what dose the speedo display with your method ? You missed the point of my experiment, it was to see if it was possible to use the speed display set in kph but actually be travelling at mph while lifting the cutoff speed to 25mph.

    DIY Mechanical Dongle

No stl files, I’m a old school engineer and make things from the material at hand hence one black pulley and one red, the drive belt is an elastic bootlace ;) I managed to get a proper ride in late this afternoon, I’d planned for 25 miles but after 8 the heavens opened so I came home the...

The pulley fits over the body of the disc carrier/hub not between the two so there’s no change in width ;)

    DIY Mechanical Dongle

I’ve had this idea bouncing around for quite a while, if I turn my speed sensor magnet slower than the wheel and I get the ratio correct (large pulley dia = small pulley dia + 61%) I can set the display to show kph,the bike will think it’s doing kph and keep the assist going up to 25kph but I’ll...

    Accessories for a bike

I have a frame bag on each of my bikes containing just enough to get me out of trouble. Innertube, patches, pump, small multi tool, folding pliers and a few disposable gloves. One bag permanently on each bike so I don’t need to remember to sort out kit before I leave, you just know you’ll get a...

    Schwalbe smart Sam good choice?

Another vote for the Sam’s. I’m about 80% road and. have the Sam plus variety for a little bit of extra protection but there still not completely bulletproof. I’d had them before and swapped the oem tyres on my new cube to sams on day one.

    Waterproof boots/shoes

Ive been using lidls waterproof walking boots for 3 winters, although I won't ride in a downpour I occasionally get caught out ;) But I do go off road through some serious mud, try to find 2-3 inches of water to stand in, washing off the worst of the mud before getting home. The only time...

    Bike horns

Been there done that. Buzzers and sirens even though they may be loud they don't tell folks a bike is comming like an old fashioned bring bring bell dose. I've even fitted a 12 volt motorcycle horn, powered off my 7.2v light battery, loud, yes, used close to a pedant and they need to go home...

New tyres for cube acid hybrid one...

I also have the acid one and my personal tyres of choice are smart Sam's for the mud and Big Apples for the road (& dry trails in the summer;)) Both are the plus flavor with the best puncture protection available for there type, marathons offer better protection but I've covered several thousand...
