    Death by dangerous riding introduced

Oh and would you believe it, just had a text from the dad, my mum got knocked off her bike by some King Knut driving a BMW who promptly ran off. Performed a dangerous overtake, clipped the handlebars and then hit and ran. She isn't seriously injured because she was wearing full PPE but anything...

    Death by dangerous riding introduced

Hundreds of people killed and maimed by drivers, and the air pollution they emit, every year because they're treated like royalty and pedestrian and cyclist infrastructure is a joke: I sleep. A tiny number of people are hurt in cycling accidents: NATIONAL EMERGENCY DECLARED. >Austin said...

How was your commute this morning?

I am pretty well kitted out for the chill to be fair. I have my grub neoprene boots with ski socks, trackie trousers with long johns and w'proof overs, and the top half is taken care of with the ski jacket and layers. Weak point is my hands - I've got these Site 'Siberian' gloves which I first...

How was your commute this morning?

No real snow for us lot yet but apparently friday is the day of reckoning. Just me and two other souls on the bike rack at work this morning. I've given up the car for Lent so there's no relenting even if it were to hit -10! The harder job will be getting to rowing tonight... 6.5 miles on...

Threat to bam cycling on A63.

The concern here is that cyclists are being made to go on the defensive, so instead of being able to spend energy and time lobbying for safe and accessible cycle routes, we're put on the spot to defend our right to the access we've had for decades. It's pure cynical manouvering against the...

    Dutch cycle testing

I had a couple of formal cycle training courses as a kid growing up. I forget precisely the order but can recall some details. Firstly in the cubs, I did a full day's course on bike handling skills, rudimentary repair and maintenance, and a simulated road ride including obeying stop signs, how...

    Child/Cargo Carrying Bikes? Any?

Ebike tips put out an article about a new version of the Packster this morning - http://ebiketips.road.cc/content/reviews/electric-cargo-bikes/riese-und-muller-packster-60-touring-1638 £4,000 for the basic model, £5k for some more features and an extra battery. The bloke reckons it's a good...

Do you think an ebike could compete in the Scottish six day trials?

I caught an episode of the Ross noble show about the Scottish six day trials the other night, and wondered if a top of the line ebike could realistically compete in the event. You can get details about the competition from here http://www.ssdt.org but the long and short is that it's a nearly...

What to do, what to do.

Being a male of similar size and weight who pulled the trigger on an ebike late last year (the one I have might suit you - see the signature - as it's a rear hub motor and I do about the same distance every day, and the exact same price as the bigbear when accounting for the mandatory tyre...

    Wireless battery charging for e-Bikes

It sounds good to me, this could help with bikes in which batteries are more firmly secured e.g. inside the frame or even wheels. Clearly the most sensible application would be in shared ebike schemes where a client can just stick the bike inside its cradle instead of faffing around with cables.

You may be interested in the 'giant saddlebag' option - which seemingly allows for a lot of storage without the burden of rear racks or rucksacks. https://en.ridebike.biz/giant-scout-seat-bag/

    Dutch view of cycling law

For me I use the bell quite a bit in towns - in the same way you'd use your car horn on a blind corner, to let people know you're there. Anyway think I'm going to wait until next payday before I pull the trigger on a new bell.

Btwin Elops 900E low frame Dutch bike - >600km and loving it - £999 but £62 tyre upgrade recommended

Was just doing a detailed clean and oil of the bike and found a USB charging spot cunningly tucked away behind the computer! Not exactly a life or death feature but I don't recall it being mentioned anywhere in the spec or marketing materials

    Dutch view of cycling law

This isn't strictly the case - the Dutch police are very firm on several aspects of cycling, particularly wearing lights. If you don't have lights on at an appropriate time (which is at the descretion of the Dutch plod) you're in for a fine. It may also surprise you to know that bells are...

Am I right to be concerned about someone damaging my bike's electronics as a vandal in London, during the day? I plan on using it as a commuter vehicle when visiting the parents. I'd take the battery off and secure it with two d locks but I'm having nightmares of someone just seeing the power...
