Enough Power for a Pensioner on Steep Hills

Torque in itself has no relevance unless both, referenced to the road wheel and the road wheel's radius; it's the "pushing" force that torque develops to move the bike that matters. Power only effects how fast the bike moves, not the hills it can climb, unless it is moving so slowly you can't...

    Step through bike uphill

Of course, it is "tosh" as "chis997" comments, what matters is the balance of stiffness and strength the designer was able to impart into the frame design. Certainly, the lightest non extreme route to getting this balance right is with a cross tubed frame, witness what universally we see in the...

    Tsdz2 way too many problems.

In UK legal guise and current model build standard, how reliable are these drives proving to be? One senses the OP could well not be using what would be a legal UK system, though the fastener seizing issue could be a more a universal problem, one not "power" related. I also sense some direct...

Why would you not wear a Cape in the rain?(current equivalent "Poncho")

Pretty well sums up my situation, plus I know I have my cape somewhere, but finding it could well be a task too far.

Why would you not wear a Cape in the rain?(current equivalent "Poncho")

I used a cape for decades, but drifted into purpose designed cycling clothes, that just one feature was wet weather use. And I think that's the cape's issue, it's a wet weather specific accessory, whereas good cycling gear is far more multipurpose, including cold windy days and wet. The cape has...

    Bike or Cycle?

As with most things language related here today its best not to get overly wound up about "correctness", provide you grasp what the person is on about. In the final analysis language is for many simply a tool to communicate with, rather than an art form. Otherwise, we could go ballistic at now...

Totally confused by watts and amps

A good reason as in the computer industry, as Samsung did, then the bike charger should have a facility to limit recharging to 80%? A value that might well suit a high percentage of users and bring both greater safety and longevity gains? If it's dangerous to leave a charger unattended, and or...

Totally confused by watts and amps

Why and how does a charger "age"? I can see non identical batteries, possibly resulting for changes /advances in technology, could need a different charger/ or routine, but surely if replacing a like for like battery, the original charger will be as suitable today as it was 5 years ago?

    Rear lights - recommendations?

Rather my concern if they get 1800 Lumens in their eyes ;) I agree though there are odd motorist that pass way too close, some I suspect on a mission to do so. At the same time there are cyclist, typically groups, on a mission to screw up motorised vehicle users; odd people out there.

    Rear lights - recommendations?

Which I do as well, at least a rear light and typically in "day time flash" mode. I am a great believer in "it's in my best interest I am seen", hence a high viz jacket, yellow helmet and bright yellow panniers, each with reflective markings; none of this stealth cycling in all black, seeking...

    Rear lights - recommendations?

With an array of 1800 Lumen lighting on a bike you could not find a better visual way to invite them to at least take an in depth interst in the bike and the rider!

    Rear lights - recommendations?

The UK legal road vehicle regulations *, even for the higher intensity use for stop lights has a maximum of 60 Candelas, a lower value of 20 Candelas. Viewed directly from the rear a bike using a 1800 Lumens light would be rated as giving 980 Candelas, over 16 times the legal maximum light...

    Rear lights - recommendations?

If you throw out so many Lumens of rear light it dazzles oncoming drivers that brings its own serious safety risks, the real purpose of rear lighting is to warn them not blind them.

    Rear lights - recommendations?

On my bikes I have a Moon Sirius and a Sirius Pro, the latter seems unduly over complicated in the modes it offers. Both are excellent as rear lights and on say a day light flash routine, a charge lasts so long I forget how long to comment. The basic Sirius has in the kit a clip fixing option...

    Legal Pitfalls

It is IMO the civil claims ramifications, for say 24 x 365 of lifetime care labour & equipment costs plus compensation damages that they are likely to be more than a little concerned about covering. Few of us I suspect could shell out the cash for just employing three carers for the whole of...

    Legal Pitfalls

IMO that is dead easy to understand, they could otherwise face the outcome of any litigation, when & if the courts ever had cause to rule on this can of worms; say a multi million £ injury claim. Whilst I can see deep upset for many here if the UK courts ever tested the law, at least then the...

    Legal Pitfalls

My take on this; Should the user of a doctored e-bike, on public access areas be facing litigation for causing life altering injuries to another party, I have my suspicions being able to outsmart the intent of e-bike laws, would be something of a secondary issue in the scale of things. But, one...
