Bosch Motor shutdown, Error 503, get you home only.

Well, as it was a machine I was using it precisely in that context, as I do in discussing engineering matters, "(of a machine, system, or technique) developed to a high degree of complexity."

Bosch Motor shutdown, Error 503, get you home only.

Are there Chinese bikes with Chinese kit, let alone the quoted £900 example, that are technically as sophisticated as drives from Bosch, Yamaha, Shimano etc? By that bikes with drive systems with the algorithms to manage true "power assistance" as opposed to electrically powered bikes where the...

Help! Any recent experience with Kalkhoff?

Plus we have one with the ill regarded Impluse 2 crank drive, not one of the Bosch range. Had it from new May 2016, it is the step through Agattu, with Gates belt and Nexus 8 gearing. They are certainly a nicely built bike using what appear as quality cycling components. I read the specific...

Bosch Motor shutdown, Error 503, get you home only.

Probably because they in their choice of bike want a cycling experience with the level of sophistication, that can't be achieved without a degree of complication?

Why so few hub geared bikes with belts ? Looking at Kalkhoff

Retrofitting a belt drive is exceedingly challenged for all but those with frame re-engineering skills and facilities, as you can't break the belt to thread through the standard configuration of the stays. Basically the bike frame has to be designed for use of the belt. Chains can be split and...

Why so few hub geared bikes with belts ? Looking at Kalkhoff

Yes, I have one circa 40 years old on a Dawes Kingpin folder, never a problem and seen no more than a few drops of oil in the hub each year. Just I don't ask of it anything like the rides, or terrains I do on our road bikes or Kalkhoff Agattu Impulse. Accept the SA versions of that vintage were...

Or they also recommend basing it on use, extending to every 3000 miles for the lighter user.

Why so few hub geared bikes with belts ? Looking at Kalkhoff

Okay, you no one would not have sold me a three speeder these days either.

Why so few hub geared bikes with belts ? Looking at Kalkhoff

True, the belt, a hub gear and a frame facilitating removal of the belt add cost compared to at least bikes with budget dérailleur gears, but IMO the shortage of the former in the UK is in part, our take on cycling. Let me put it this way, as a generalisation the UK cyclist is a recreational...

Why so few hub geared bikes with belts ? Looking at Kalkhoff

Oh, then probably don't look too deeply into the sublime Rohloff 14 speeder, with or without the electrical shift. Link; Rohloff There are some videos available out there to really get into the operating details!!! ;)

Why so few hub geared bikes with belts ? Looking at Kalkhoff

The Raleigh Centros range includes belt driven Nexus hub models. Here is a link: CENTROS RANGE I went the Gates belt combined with Nexus 8 speed hub geared back in 2016 for my wife, but now I am a very regular user of it. That is a Kalkhoff Agattu of that vintage, but unlike today features...

I had little doubt he did, I did apologise and wink.

Hi all. I am Jasper I am an ebike bike designer, I grew up in UK now living in Singapore

Wrong starting point IMO there, that's a "stylist" job, a bike "designer" should put function way over "looks", the stylist just tidying it up finally. ;) Sadly, though that's not the way of the world these days, from buyer reflecting right back to the producer. Sorry Woosh, just a very raw...

    Hub gears v derailleur

With my Nexus 8 there is only a need to take the torque I apply off as I change gear, no need to stop pedaling or back pedal. The crank drive itself also automatically is powered off for a moment as the gears change, it has a sensor to signal this in the gear change cable.

Riese and Müller Homage GT Vario - second impressions

Thank you for an interesting read, both re the bike and the routes taken. On the point of using cycleways on disused railway tracks, is the "Cinder Track" itself a rewarding ride, in that close by I have the "Meon Valley Track" but this is grossly spoilt by the growth of the track side...

    Suspension seat post advice please

There is also the depth of the saddle itself, not all are the same and unfortunately gaining saddle compliance type comfort goes hand in hand IME with greater saddle depth.

Thinking now is it all worth while ?

Much a side issue, but one these photos share with many from the past, even our family album, is the "ears". What has generically happened, exceptions accepted, that today they are far more streamline? Could it be the advent of the bike, the greater speed of travel, so the chilling effect has in...

Thinking now is it all worth while ?

Then of course cross bar frames have, to my knowledge, not been the exclusive domain of males. My wife through our decades of cycling used cross bar frames, some even specifically designed and sold for the female skeleton's geometry.

Thinking now is it all worth while ?

But, would the likes of a Claude Butler really have benefited at all from gaining a suspension fork or to any great extent from disc brakes? The lovely swept chrome moly steel forks worked well and sapped little energy, and out of any mud plugging role the rim brakes coped, if not perfectly...

First e-Bike (Somewhat overawed and confused...!) - Help / Guidance appreciated

This thread also addressed some of the issues between the two bikes, technically IMO you have by far the better of the two. Better engineered hub gear, bigger battery, and much better belt drive...
