Advice wanted for DIY Welsh commuter (Trek FX conversion?)

Can you narrow that down a little bit for me please as Google is letting me down. I’ve got disc mounts at the front but interested in what improvements I can make at the back as well, just curiosity really.

    The Law

When I used to time trial I rarely used a helmet and I’m still here despite some big falls .. but I do use on e now, for a number of reasons. These days regardless of my own views I try to be seen to be using common sense and what most would consider to be the right protective equipment. I...

Dalston fatal e-bike crash rider 'going too fast' - Court Case

On some roads, pedestrians are not permitted to be in the carriageway, that has been successfully used as mitigation when a case has come to court, it has also been judged not in the public interest to prosecute in circumstances as above. Now In this current case it is perfectly reasonable to...

I still travel to England on a weekly basis so I could always do a booze cruise :-)

Thank you for taking the time to reply, there is nothing you wrote that I disagree with and it aligns with my driver training. Where we disagree fundamentally is that you state that had he been as safety conscious as you, then “nothing” would’ve happened, I don’t know what might have happened...

It does make me smile though, I can just imagine some bloke with an Amazon home shop thinking he can make a few quid out of selling extra hand sanitiser, whereas Aldi with their marketing genius are currently targeting lawnmowers on the very weekend that storm Jorge is due to set in :-)

Well I’m a little perplexed by that comment, on the one hand you are saying that had he been safety conscious then nothing would’ve happened (my paraphrase) yet you accept that other people influenced your own safety record. I think we agree that what he did was wrong, but where we perhaps...

Dalston fatal e-bike crash rider 'going too fast' - Court Case

The odds of this incident occurring and the severity of the outcome were stacked against him due to his excessive speed, the lack of attention by both parties does seem contributory, that does appear to be the case. My comments were directed to those in this thread speculating about how fast...

Dalston fatal e-bike crash rider 'going too fast' - Court Case

A flick of the handlebars 0.5 degrees to the left and he would have passed behind her.. maybe hit someone else.. maybe gone over the bars and broke his neck hitting the lamp post.... Going slower might have saved the day.. having an extra slice of toast in the morning would have put him 500m...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

Well as previously mentioned I’m awaiting a minor operation that was cancelled due to winter pressures, if they rang me today and asked me if I wanted to go they can stick it up their backside :-) the last thing they need is me adding to the problems and the last thing I need is to be in a...

Which ever way I travel from here at one end of the journey I have to deal with Parys Mountain :-)

Advice wanted for DIY Welsh commuter (Trek FX conversion?)

Yes I’ve got disc mounts on the front fork (suspension) so that’s a relatively straightforward job and the back brakes are okay really. The front is okay really but the block wear seems quite significant so far ;-) But looking at the front forks on the OP bike, I think it might be a struggle to...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

It was laziness on my part really, rather than get off my backside and go to the shop and see what the price was there I just looked on Amazon. I’ve got plenty of the stuff at home for general washing and cleaning so it was only the little hand dispenser thingy that I was looking for, i’m...

Definitely mudguards! One thing I’m considering on mine now is upgrading the front brake to a disc. I’m finding the v brakes struggle a bit when it’s wet and the extra weight of the bike (and before anyone says it - me) are compounding that. Even here on Anglesey the hills are steep :-)

I use a bit of hand sanitiser when I’m out and about with the dog, I normally pay 3 or 4 quid for a spray which lasts months. I noticed that it was time I replaced it and as it’s prudent to have one in the car just now I thought I’d buy an extra one. Three sprays are now advertised at forty quid...

If I was of school age (I can vaguely remember how much I enjoyed school) I would definitely be coughing and spluttering my way around school and waiting to be sent home :)

Think a kit is the cost effective option, but at 18St 8Lbs, I may be wrong.

Putting a mid drive on it would also mean the old redundant hub motor would remain , slight extra weight and mechanical complexity. Or extra cost replacing the wheel.

    The Law

For sure, and that’s where the discussion is almost lost before it starts, I suspect by the time I’d finished talking to her about her dog she would have forgotten what the beginning of the conversation was about :) As soon as the guy on the bike started shouting about his rights and how she...
