Advice re new bike with hub gears.

Yep Trevormonty, I guess with a rear electric Hub drive, then it's either derrailure or nothing. It's just my personal opinion, that I would never even consider a electric hub drive motor, front or rear, I just think that they are naff. Although who am I to comment, having never owned an...

Advice re new bike with hub gears.

It's a known fact that derrailure, gears wear out in no time on ebikes, in fact I even spoke to a chap who owns an ebike with the Brose mid drive motor, and he said he was going through cassettes at an alarming rate. No doubt the 90nm of the Brose was not helping matters. Let's face it, the...

New Bosch drive Halfords Carrera bikes

Yep I see now that the specific ebike brake levers are mostly used on cheap ebikes and the Bafang kits, no doubt for when the throttle is being used and for motor over run when peddling is stopped. I am planning to use my Rohloff SpeedHub in place of the rear cassette, which will at least...

Advice re new bike with hub gears.

I have been riding igh Bikes since the 1970's and I really don't get why in this modern age that ebikes come with derailleur gears, they are just so last century. My current none ebike sports a Roholff SpeedHub fitted back in 2004, it's 14 evenly spaced gears give the same gear range as a 27...

New Bosch drive Halfords Carrera bikes

Thanks Gringo, I understand now about the brake motor thing. So glad that I decided not to go for one of the Bafang BB kits. The Crossfuse seems perfect for my needs.

New Bosch drive Halfords Carrera bikes

Azzuri, did you notice if the brake levers cut off power to the motor when activated. Not sure if the brake levers are ebike specific, with a cable connection to the motor. To be fair I am not even sure how Bosch motor ebikes, stop the motor when brakes are applied, or when gear changes are...

New Bosch drive Halfords Carrera bikes

Yep Gubbins, not sure that these new Bosch motors will suffer from the Bosch bearing problem, as the internal gearing has been virtually eleminated due to the Direct Drive design and full size 42T Chain Ring. Quite so egroover, it would be nice to end up with a 400Wh and 500Wh battery, although...

£200 extra for style could be worth it to some, but I am a practical type of guy!

New Bosch drive Halfords Carrera bikes

There are at least two ebike retailers that make regular post's on here, that have been deafeningly quiet about the arrival of the Halfords Carrera Crossfuse. I think that speaks volumes in itself. This is a very brave move by Halfords into premium ebike's, and I think that they are onto a...

    Schwalbe Marathon Plus

Got a pair of 26" x 1.5" MP for my none ebike around a year ago, they are outstanding, I can feel the extra weight, but it makes little difference, although I feel they may be overkill, no punctures of course. Thinking about changing them for "Marathon Tour" 26" x 1 3/8" slightly less...

New Bosch drive Halfords Carrera bikes

Yep, the Crossfuse is definatley set to be a game changer in the UK Crank Drive Ebike market. It was quite interesting to learn, that Bosch have gone through some rigorous testing of the battery packs for these new motors, both in house and independently allegedly making them the most reliable...

New Bosch drive Halfords Carrera bikes

It will be interesting to keep a watch on the price of the Crossfuse. With it being a brand new model it is probably on price establishment, to allow for future advertised savings. And of course we have "Black Friday" comming up soon. It could even be worth hanging on until the January sales...

New Bosch drive Halfords Carrera bikes

Yep, I think the deal for staff at Halfords is that they can buy one bike per year at cost, which works out at around 36% of shop price. This bike can then be put on the CTW scheme. Other than that it's a staff discount of 25% on bikes, and other stuff but not everything. Of course they can...

    Is there such a thing...

Yep, the Brooks Swift Titanium saddle on my none ebike, is showing very little signs of age, having been using it since 2004. If I was in the market for a new saddle today, I would opt for one of the Gilles Berthoud models, very similar to the Brooks, but arguably much better finished.

New Bosch drive Halfords Carrera bikes

Son 32 works at Halfords as a bike Tech, and none of the staff even new of this bike, although they do stock the Hub motor models. He cycles on his none ebike 12 miles into work each day, 5 days a week for 8/10hr shift, so is going to get one of these Crossfuse models. With staff discount, and...

    What Bosch motor for commuting?

Interesting though, that both the Bafang OEM, and Yamaha motors are now using isis for the crank interface, rather than Square Taper. I have been using isis cranks since 2004 on my none ebike, it's a very good interface, it's only downside for none Ebikes was the short life of the BB. Although...

    What Bosch motor for commuting?

Yep, I noticed that post d8veh, seems that the BB Bearings have some built in obsolescence. Not a problem if they are user servicible, or if your LBS is willing to do the job. On my none ebike I have the SKF isis BB, as they came with a 10 year or 100,000km warranty which ever comes first. Of...
