48v rear lights, what are our options?

If you do buy a DC-DC converter be sure to get one that can handle the 56v of a fully charged 48v battery. The one linked a above looks like it has 50v caps on it. It will blow.

    Raleigh Motus hub lights

Lidl often have those little clip on ones. Mrs Quay picked up a set for £2.99 during the week, just as a back up.

    Hi new user

Show us a picture if the controller and its connecting wires. Often, there's a pair if wires (single core). When linked the limit is applied, disconnected its removed. Often grey or white. If you want more power you will need to solder the shunt.

    Hi new user

I'd assume it's a pedal sensor. It gives a pulsed signal to the controller to let it know you are rotating the pedals, and the power is then fed to the motor. On most kits where you also have a throttle it is optional. Personally speaking, I usually don't bother with it.

    Electric Socks!!

I make my living from industrial electronic control systems. During the commissioning phase of a project I spend a lot of time stood/sat still at a laptop, testing code. Often outdoors, or in unheated areas. As you can imagine, in Jan/Feb it can get extremely cold. To combat this I have built...

Custom ebike kit vs ready built

there are a few people on here who might build it for you. Where are you Johnboy? There's a couple of things you need to consider that are conflicting in your spec: 1. If you have fancy hub gears then you are restricted to Mid drive or front hub. Neither of which are as stealthy as a rear hub...

Battery Voltage (42V) & Charging Voltage (42V) Questions.

Yes, I am aware of ohms law, thanks! But it does not apply in the way you are using it, because the load (motor) is not allowed to consume as much power (watts) as it likes, because the controller is limiting how much current (amps) it can have. If you change to motor to a 10kw one, it will...

Battery Voltage (42V) & Charging Voltage (42V) Questions.

Both of you are getting confused here. The motor rating has nothing to do with power, as the current, therefore the power, is governed by the controller. If you increase the voltage, you increase the power. The current will will remain the same. It is regulated by the controller. The rating...

    just to annoy

Looks simple enough. Front hub motor in 24" rim, controller and battery in/under basket. Nice easy conversion. Now you have to decide on a kit.

Tyres: do they really need to be so hard?

I run Fat Franks on my cruiser. Schwalbe say the are equivalent to Big Apples. They are absolutely brilliant. Comfy, low resistance, puncture resistant. I've used a lot of different tyres, on many different bikes. For comfort, I wouldn't use anything else.

Looking for new fast ebike. So many choices!

You are getting way ahead of yourself here. You need to pay more attention to the actual lines, not what you perceive between them. The OP is (presumably) looking for advice on his/her original topic: 'Looking For a New Fast Ebike'. It's not helpful to the OP for you to chip in with uniformed...
