    Northern Ireland regulations.

If this ends up becoming law, then I reckon that'll totally kill off the electric bike industry there. No one in their right mind will want to ride whilst wearing full gear. It negates the effect of arriving at work sweat free, and I personally think full face helmets stifle peripheral vision...

    Northern Ireland regulations.

Where the regs stipulate crash helmet, does that mean one of those full face thingies?

    Silly mistake bought a 36v bbs01 and a 48v battery

If, as your forum ID suggests, you are new to the game, I would go for anotherkiwi's suggestion of selling it and buying a 36v one. Too much scope for things to go wrong by swapping the controller.

    Expected lifetime of a BBS02

BBS02, around 5,000 miles off the top of my head. Programmed for maximum power. Replaced controller early on, but that was due to Bafang supplying controllers with inferior MOSFETs. Should no longer be an issue. When I opened it up recently, the nylon gear was fine. Apart from a slightly noisy...

15.5mph to 0mph in about six feet

Oh man, things can bite you when you're least expecting it :( I rushed out of the back door a few weeks ago, to collect the washing off the line when it started raining. Well, decking and water doesn't mix and I ended up sliding 5 feet and onto my arse. Ouch! Another time, I decided to ride...

Chain line problems unable to shift to 9th gear

Yeah sorry my bad, the custom chainrings usually help with problems in lower gears. Must've had a brain fart lol. Not quite sure what you are on about with the torque though. The smaller the chainring on a BBS02, the greater the torque at the rear wheel in every gear. The hill climbing ability...

Chain line problems unable to shift to 9th gear

If the chainring is the original Bafang one that came with the kit, then you may need to purchase a custom chainring with more offset. The original on mine gave a poor chainline, so I fitted one of these...

    Battery concern

I may be wrong, but it sounds like the dealer can't even be arsed to test and supply a working battery. Either kick up a stink or reject.

    Battery concern

I suppose it depends on how long the battery has been empty. If it had recently been used down to the BMS cut-off, then it shouldn't be an issue. Charge up and use. If on the other hand it's been lying around the workshop unused, and allowed to drop over time to that level, then maybe not. I...

    Just fitted BBS02 kit

Check the fuse holder contacts are nice and clean. Any tarnishing can cause high resistance, overheating of the fuse and premature death, of the fuse that is :D Contact cleaner on a cotton bud should do the trick.

Would I be dumb to buy an leccy bike?

Naughty naughty soundwave, I'm sure our new member doesn't want to go whizzing round like his arse is on fire

Is this bike ok to fit a kit to.

Nice bike, good brand, go for it :)

Strange creaking noise when pedalling Scott/Bosch fs mtb.

Bikes can develop noises in places where you think they are, but in actual fact are coming from elsewhere. For example, I had a creak sound, similar to yours, which I swore was coming from the headset. Turned out to be a loose seat clamp, which was transmitting the sound along the frame, to give...

Would compulsory insurance for all electric bikes put you off?

I did giggle at the mention of dodgems in the article above :D

Would compulsory insurance for all electric bikes put you off?

I propose that by 2020, all electric bikes must be able to fly to an altitude of 1000 feet, plus have at least one mounted Nerf gun, to deal with pesky dogs and pedestrians.

Would compulsory insurance for all electric bikes put you off?

Exactly Dave. If this story is true, I can't believe some bureaucrats have actually contemplated this outlandish idea. Probably earning far more money than you and I, and quaffing endless supplies of tea and Hobnobs. Bureaucrats is probably the wrong term, European council members
