Don't really need one! If one fell into my lap, maybe. Until then, I am happy to wait.

I keep meaning to try one of these. I spent many years riding road bikes so I naturally unweight myself going over hills so I don't feel uncomfortable after riding. But when I was doing high mileages on towpaths I found a sprung saddle was a great solution which definitely contributed to...

Other people have told you about the law and the danger you're putting yourself into riding a motorbike without adequate brakes, suspension or safety gear, so I'll leave that up to you. You're an adult. These are three other things you need to think about though, so you can make an informed...

Hi - I have a few questions about what to choose?

No. What will happen to you is what will happen to all the other owners of illegal ebikes that have had their bikes confiscated by the police when they were stopped by the police: The police will pull you over. The bike will be impounded until you can produce documenation proving it is UK...

Hi - I have a few questions about what to choose?

They have been carrying out random stops on electric bikes. In other places than London as well. https://www.cityoflondon.police.uk/news/city-of-london/news/2024/january/city-of-london-police-seize-five-illegal-e-bikes-and-e-scooters-a-week/ If you fit a BBSHD to your bike and the police stop...

Hi - I have a few questions about what to choose?

Much, much too cheap. That's a scam. You've been given good advice here about the law and electric bikes in the UK. If you want to buy an offroad kit and use it with your town bike do so by all means, but expect it to be impounded if the police catch you using it. They will be cracking down on...

    Brake calipers quality

I don't think that is as much of an issue as you think it is. In the wrong conditions and with the wrong pads rims do wear out quickly but in day-to-day usage on utility and touring bikes on roads I don't think it comes into it at all. I've only ever worn out rims on one bike, my Dawes Galaxy...

    Brake calipers quality

Yes, I bought some bikes in the early 2000s that had really, really bad brakes. It was OK, the next one had Magura HS22s which were really, really good. I had that one for years! I don't know really. Banter should be funny and it should make something boring more interesting. This forum is...

    Brake calipers quality

Your posts on this topic remind me of a certain other member on this forum who sounds a bit ridiculous because of his insistence that hub motors are all useless. The fact is that Magura rim brakes are perfectly adequate for stopping an electric bike. In practical use for many applications...

non-folder to fit in the boot?

My understanding is not much more than the restricted speed. All I know is I can get up any hill in the Peak District on it.

non-folder to fit in the boot?

700c. That's a big bike! Plus (and this bit really is absurd), it's got a crap fork. A bike that supposedly sells for the best part of a grand has a cheap, poor quality fork. Suspension forks are expensive things to make well - better to have a rigid one for increased reliability.

non-folder to fit in the boot?

Not much more complicated after the first install. Removing the battery makes a huge difference when loading and unloading, it's the haeaviest part of the system. The reason there are lots of fwd pedelecs are they're cheaper. I did have one as my first pedelec, it was fine but you can lose...

As a rule of thumb, always try to remove the tension by backing the screws off. Less tension on the arms is usually better than adding tension. In practice it doesn't really matter if they aren't dead centre. Re rim wear, almost all modern rims have an indicator. I think this thread might make...

non-folder to fit in the boot?

I think the hilly tracks of wales are a bit of a push with a 250w 36v front wheel. I'd suggest a rear wheel or a crank drive. The DWG22C has much more torque and gets me up any hill here in the Peaks. Front wheel can be quick release then. The other thing I like about my hub gear is the triple...

Kalkhoff, Gazelle, Tout Terrain, VSF and Oxford Bike works all make bikes with Magura rim brakes. There are others, but those are off the top of my head. You won't find them on cheap bikes like the one you linked to above, because they're not cheap. It's the same reason you don't often see a...

    Brake calipers quality

That is not borne out by the experience of hundreds of thousands of miles of utility riding and touring. If they were not effective brakes, they would not still be specced on any number of high-end touring and utility bikes. They will do the job admirably. For a bike used on road in practice...

    Brake calipers quality

The Maguras will still be working exactly like they have always done when the bike you've linked to is scrap. That's the point of them - they are utterly reliable, you don't have to think about them once they're fitted. I would always have a rigid steel fork over a cheap suspension fork as...

    Cycling Industry Bubble Burst

True story: I used to live on a narrowboat - I once knew someone who was fed up with his bikes getting stolen, so at night he'd tie his full suspension catalogue special to the end of his mooring line and throw it in the canal rather than locking it up. Got through a bike every couple of months...
