    Punctures

Tannus inserts will reduce the risk with most tubed tyre types, but do alter the feel. In theory you can ride them flat, but didn't work for me on 20" folder tyres.

    Bicycles to pay road tax

Hydrogen.. Good if made from excess solar/wind energy. Dreadful if made from methane or coal (yes, you can turn coal and water into CO2 and H2.. Is it a good idea? Only if you own a coal mine, and have no kids).

    Bicycles to pay road tax

Problem is most of us buy stuff which arrives and moves around on trucks, so we are going to pay eventually either way. Charge hgv drivers more, cost of goods goes up. Would we do better on rail / canal? Well, rail would be easier to electrify I guess, bur (post beeching) doesn't go to enough...

Carrera ebike - new brake lever needed

Except the front brake usually won't stop you rolling back on a steep hill after you have stopped, and the weight transferred off the front wheel, so you do need both.

    Unavoidable Bicycle Badger Collision

My sympathy, hope you make a good recovery, but how fast were you going to do that much damage? Round here it is more likely to be sheep, but at least they are softer.

Do any bike manufacturers provide for accessories to plug in?

Istr that some of the Bosch displays have usb output, but that would be limited to running or charging your phone, I don't know any that can run a tyre pump (usually 12v cigarette lighter socket) much less a kettle. I have a nice electric tyre pump, but that has its own built in battery. See...

    Help! Haibike sduro hard 7

Mid motor e-bikes definitely need a decent chain, or better yet a belt drive. Some manufacturers fit the cheapest chain China can produce, but the rest of the bike is likely no better. If you upgraded a bike yourself you probably should upgrade the chain too. Hub vs mid motor is a religious...

Riese & Muller Homage review (warts and all)

And finally .. While they were servicing my bike (2 hours-ish) I got a test ride on the 2021 model Rohlhoff equivalent (£7k + change) which might be worth a quick addendum. Same: the stand still rattles (same fix applies), the pedals are still the most godawful ones I ever came across as far...

    Gas or electric soldering irons?

I have labels all over my consumer unit saying 'don't do this, check the insulation using 250v max', because lots of equipment, starting with the smoke alarms, will likely fail dismally if you put 500v across them.

Riese & Muller Homage review (warts and all)

Update.. the friendly LBS did the service, which cost me new front pads, and that was all. See I said it was hilly! Also put the 3rd assist setting back to 'sport', which is a definite improvement, and cheated on the stand rattle by fitting a rubber o ring. Works for now -(but they gave me a...

Riese & Muller Homage review (warts and all)

Yes, in city you need to take it indoors. I suspect your insurers would insist. If they didn't nick the whole thing you'd lose wheel, saddle, etc etc, unless you have guard on duty, or gates / doors / electric fence between you and the wrong 'uns. Bosch dealer might know where it went, if it...

Riese & Muller Homage review (warts and all)

The spec for this can be viewed at https://www.r-m.de/en-gb/bikes/homage/ although that's the 2021 (by now 2022?) version, mine is 2020. I got my bike from 'Bicycles by design' in Telford (OK, really in Coalport), since they had a demonstrator in stock, were willing to sell me it, and to sell...

bosch embt assitance mode - how to use it ?

I have the same, and am going to get it reprogrammed back to regular sport mode, fixed % assist. In emtb mode it is very torque sensitive, in fact that is about all it cares about. Stand on the pedals, get turbo assist, ease off or use granny gear, and get hardly any. I don't think cadence gets...

Lithium vs. Lead Acid: Debunking the Top 3 Lithium Battery Myths

It is interesting, but you have to allow some windage since, as you say, these folks, who wrote it, make one particular option. I suspect the version written by someone else would stress some other points instead.

Speed Pedelec successfully registered with DVLA (Riese & Muller Cruiser HS Vario)

I'm sure you must have something you could run into at 30mph. Soundwave's chum found some!

Speed Pedelec successfully registered with DVLA (Riese & Muller Cruiser HS Vario)

You probably bounce better than me, or believe you do. I nervously feather the brakes much above 30 mph: those sheep have no road sense and great camouflage, and the combines are awful wide.

Speed Pedelec successfully registered with DVLA (Riese & Muller Cruiser HS Vario)

I got to 32mph Saturday, but that was downhill and downwind. Luckily the Bosch Abs system won't let you stop fast enough to fly over the bars, though hitting something solid (sheep being favourite round here) would work.

    Electric Bikes and Global Warming.

Yes, the planet survived quite nicely several degrees, warmer than today, and if you like most of the world as a swamp, and your species ends in 'saurus' you'll do just fine. Man, the species, starts somewhere around the big dip on the right hand side of your graph. 500 million years ago you'd...

    Cycling. Health. Covid. Diet.

Yes, the conclusion is that, like flu, eventually 99.9% of everyone will get it. The goal is to spread out 'when' to avoid hospital overload, and to reduce the %age who get very ill or die. If we can get the death rate (ie %age of those infected who die from it) down to flu levels we will have...
