    Is this idea legal?

Well, In Canada, BC, having a gas generator is not legal. I came across this awhile ago. Power assisted bicycle electric bicycle ebike laws in British Columbia Canada I guess it totally depends on where you live.

    Battery fire!

Even though I was able to parallel charge my packs, I still didn’t have too much confidence in my process especially after Jeremy’s experience. On my first attempt, I only had one of the packs thermistor connected, and that happened to be the pack that peaked first. But if the other pack had...

    Battery fire!

Jeremy I was wondering if this is the first time you tried charging your parallel pack like that, or have you been doing this for awhile and only now encountered this problem? I just charged my parallel pack fully for the first time. I'm at work all day, so I was able to keep an eye on it...

    Battery fire!

What about charging in a fireplace. That should be pretty safe.

    Battery fire!

I'm almost doing the exact same thing as you. I have two sub C, 3800 mah packs in parallel. I just got my second pack yestesday so I haven't had much time to play with them. But I didn't manage to wire it all up and had it on trickle charge last night. In the morning, I charged it up for an hour...

    Cheap NiMh 36V charger

One thing I've noticed with the 48V powerstream charger is that if you connect it to a lower voltage battery, the charger will pulse the current for awhile until the battery voltage has raised to what it thinks is right. Then it will start charging at 2A. I'm mainly using this charger for my 35...

    Ebay LiFePO4 batteries

Just out of curiousity, I went to the Yesa site and ask for a quote for a 48V 10Ah LiFePO4. They want $560 USD for the battery with BMS and a 3A charger. Something I noticed about their battery was it weighed more than the duct tape packs on Ebay. Their 48V 10Ah weighs 5.8Kg or 12.8lbs. The duct...

    Clicking noise

My hub motor is a Crystalyte, so it doesn't have a freewheel. I sented an email to ebikes about this, and this is what they said... > When you roll the bike backwards with the controller on, there are > large currents that flow through the body diodes of the low side > mosfets effectively...

    Clicking noise

I've noticed that my hub motor will make a clicking noise if I roll the bike backwards with the controller turned on. No noise when it's turned off. Does anyone know what that noise is? It doesn't sound like it's good for the motor. I'm wondering if rolling backwards will do damage to it.

    Cheap NiMh 36V charger

Torben Nice job on your el focus. I never would have thought to use a hub motor that way. Very creative!

    Ebay LiFePO4 batteries

From that link, a 24V 4.2 Ah SCiB standard module weighs 2kg. So you would need 4 modules to make one 48V 8.4Ah pack, which will weigh 8kg or 17.6lbs! That's almost 8 pounds heavier than a LiFePO4.

    Ebay LiFePO4 batteries

Looking at ebay now, I don't see any more batteries from Anna.008. The thread that I read earlier say that Anna is the same seller as New.Journey07. Two peopel in that thread won auctions from new.journey and both had delays in shipping, which they ended up cancelling because it took so long. So...

    Ebay LiFePO4 batteries

It's possible they're on the level and they will get the shippment out, but aren't ebay sellers suppose to have in stock what they are selling? 3 weeks delay in shipping seems excessive. I would definitely not wait longer than 45 days, which is the time Paypal gives you to file a complaint and...

    Ebay LiFePO4 batteries

Thanks for that link. I just spend almost an hour reading all of it. To summary the whole thread... There were a couple people there that did buy lifepo4 from different sellers on ebay. They both had positive things to say about the performance. One of them tested the battery with a watt meter...

    Ebay LiFePO4 batteries

Has anyone taken the plunge and bought a Lifepo4 battery off ebay? There are some great deals there. I'm just wondering how good those batteries are. Compared with NiMh cells, a 48V 10AH would cost me $290 plus shipping. And that's for loose cells. A 48V 10AH Lifepo4 off ebay goes for $250...

    Electric kits vs. new bike

Hmm... So even a geared hub motors that can free wheel would ride with enough resistance that you would notice it? I thought the new ezee hub motor kit that they sell at ebikes would have little to no motor drag. I know my crystalyte motor does have a fair bit of drag. If I keep the speed...

    $2500.00 car.

The gas prices in Canada are dirt cheap, around $1.05 CAD / litre. But even at this price, you'd be surprised how many people complain that gas cost too much. I believe you when you say people still drive large cars where you are with high gas prices. But i'd be willing to bet that the...

    $2500.00 car.

I think the ebike revolution would speed up a whole lot if gas prices doubled or tripled. I can see the point that such a cheap car would allow more people to drive and therefore cause more pollution. But personally, I would still feel better if the roads are full of smalls car, and not huge SUVs.

Why do you ride an electric bike?

Had I known you just started a simular thread, I wouldn't have started this one. Too bad about the low replies. Hopefully sinces voting is easier than typing a reply, there will be more responses. I'm sure there are a lot more reason for riding an ebike. If your reason isn't on the voting...

Why do you ride an electric bike?

I’ve been wondering what is the main reason different people have for riding an electric bike. Here in Canada, they are not very common. I’ve only seen a few people riding them. The only bikes sold here are low quality, cheap bikes imported from China. And even those only started appearing a...
