Cyclamatic: The Beastamatic is dead! Long live the Beastamatic

Still looking for a good LiFePO4 36v 10Ah pack with standard Cyclamatic form factor... Example (not sure about spec / quality, etc): 36V 10AH LiFePO4 Battery Aluminium Case+BMS+Charger | eBay Plan to try it out with standard controller and then upgrade to d8veh's recommended MOSFET...

Yep - was thinking of +under+ the controller compartment - the plate is just the right size and right next to the cable grommet hole. Was thinking of adding another hole at the back of the plate and making the connections inside the controller compartment...

Lipo's seem to be the way forward on price/weight/power, but are a bit complex to use, potentially dangerous for the average user and can be difficult to charge... I think I've found a low cost solution to some of these issues via Endless Sphere forum: Endless-sphere.com • View topic...

Thanks d8veh - looks to be a good price with PSU included... Found some well priced Zippy 10s 4500mAh Lipo packs, but the chargers seem to be more expensive than the batteries! I'm still trying to find a way to upgrade to 36v, while keeping the charging cycle simple (ideally the way it is...

Anyone know of a reasonably priced 10s Lipo charger?

Rat with original graffiti paint job :D How about attaching an upgraded controller to the base of the current controller compartment with some heat-sink compound? Airflow / connection to the frame would help lose the heat and it would be a good location wiring-wise too; more space -...

Here's my first 'Rat' shunt mod - probably a little less than 1/3 of the length: Noticeable improvement climbing hills, which is what I was hoping for - motor noise sounds higher pitched than it was... I take it blowing the controller FET's is the main danger in increasing the current...

Opened the Rat's battery case and found this: Does it look familiar to anyone? Seems to be an old version (has a 2008 date marked on the board). Was intending to do the shunt mode, but as this board is different, not sure doing it will be safe.

Quick update on 'The Rat' which arrived about an hour ago... Believe it or not, the owner prior to the lady who sold it to me had fitted a handlebar kill switch and as soon as I turned it on, the bike sprang into life! :D :D It has a dodgy paint job and the brakes could do with some...

'...We have a good 3D printer at work. It prints ABS. I'm not sure that it's strong enough for motor gears....' This outfit does laser-cut stainless - might do the job if the sheet they use is thick enough: Ponoko - Ponoko - United States - Ponoko (They do a wide range of plastics too)...

If I end up breaking the 'Rat' you guys are first on the list for any spares, of course! @Fordulike: There are some good low cost '3D printer' services around these days - they can make virtually any shape in many different types of plastic (and even metal). Have been thinking of getting an...

I'll be more than happy if I can get it to run - thanks for the advice... It's a bit rough round the edges but with a matt black respray should make a good test rat! :D

Just bought a 2nd hand Cyclamatic on ebay for £100 which apparently has a good battery (tested on another bike) and was working until a couple of weeks ago, but now has no lights on h/bars. Any thoughts on what might be wrong appreciated (sounds like a wiring problem)? In any case, I can now...

Understood, but what I'm wondering is should I expect a voltage sag under load sufficient to cause the green light to go out using a brand new fully charged standard 24v pack? Maybe I've go a sub-standard pack? re: 18650's - really interested in your configuration Skottyf - where did you get...

Charged the standard batts fully and took it for a test ride, but I'm getting two lights on the handlebar indicators when the motor is under full load; which I assume indicates voltage sag... Is this normal (don't remember it happening when I tried another bike a few months ago)?

@d8veh: Thanks for the link to those LiPo packs - look good for the money and you've obviously tested them thoroughly already. Do you know if 4 would fit into the existing case? re: cheap Chinese batts - I contacted the major supplier of tagged 18650's on ebay and they tell me the 3600mAh...

:D I'm a computer / electronics engineer, interested in eco friendly tech, who enjoys a modding challenge and live on the side of a big hill in which is between here and town, so building a Beastamatic ticks quite a few boxes in terms of fun and practicality... I like the idea of making...

Aha - so is the balance issue one of capacity - i.e. a different Ah rating leads to a variation in output voltage as power is consumed (which upsets the BMS)? Just wondering (if that is the issue) whether it would be possible to use some 2000mAh 18650's such as: 1 PC Li-Ion 18650...
