Prices of the electricity we use to charge

You eat 18kg of veg? My God. you are backing the wrong technology for bicycle propulsion. What you need is some sort of rubber tube leading from your own 'person' to a small gas turbine engine. If you are committed to electric traction, just have an alternator connected to the turbine shaft and...

Prices of the electricity we use to charge

Maybe you could fashion some pannier boxes low down on the rear end to carry two NAion batteries, one each side. That would make up for the lost capacity pretty much and make a tolerably balanced bike. If you could lose another few kilos off your waist and ar se, all would be equalised. :)

Bafang reliability (my experience - OVERWHLMINGLY POSITIVE!)

I can't quite see how the tension on that big castellated nut would affect the bearings... But then I never dismantled one so what do I know? How would that work?

Prices of the electricity we use to charge

Yes indeed, but to be fair, that was the price at a particular time on a particular day. The price paid to generators is variable depending mostly on how much wind and sun is available. When we get a cloudy, still day, the price paid to generators rockets. This encourages the gas turbine...

Prices of the electricity we use to charge

I tried to understand this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sodium-ion_battery But found it heavy going. Should have worked a lot harder at school chemistry lessons. Mind you, had we been learning more about batteries, I probably would have done.

Prices of the electricity we use to charge

There would need to be significant advantages to justify adopting a cell technology with half the energy density of Lithium. I get the issue of how abundant and cheap sodium is. That might do it as lithium gets used up and more expensive. It is a pretty scarce element, but (as a crude...

    Cycle helmet (again)

I'm not so sure about that conclusion. Bruising is blood in the tissues after a blow. How does the extent of that relate to age? I can't see any age related mechanism.

    Help! Thoughts around the battery.....

Are you for real? Really? FFS..... Lighten up or stop drinking strong coffee.

Prices of the electricity we use to charge

Yes - I don't spend much at all to be honest. My forecast at the new rates is about £825 a year for gas and electricity.

Prices of the electricity we use to charge

The crafty swine! Octopus wrote an article in which they say they want to get rid of standing charges and put that money onto the unit rate. They claim that OFGEM won't let them. source: https://octopus.energy/blog/energy-price-cap-april-2024/

Prices of the electricity we use to charge

Back on topic. My electricity price is dropping from 23.354p per kilowatt hour to 21.280 per kilowatt hour on July 1st. Whoopee!! I can buy myself something posh and expensive now..... The rip off standing charge is staying the same though - about a pound a day for power (gas and electricity)...

    Cycle helmet (again)

I had a couple of falls like that, but managed to break my fall by sticking out my hand and came off none the worse. One of those happened because I could not get my foot out of a toe clip gadget (back in the days when they were straps and buckles) and the other happened similarly when my...

    Cycle helmet (again)

Yes - I am just getting one of my motorbikes ready for an MOT... Whenever I read these kinds of topics, I suddenly lose interest in riding them....

    Cycle helmet (again)

No. The remark was made on an anecdotal basis, having watched numerous heli -med programmes and heard of cases of cyclists having pelvic fractures. they certainly occur and I would not have expected it given that most cycling is at moderate speed. Your question led me to google the issue and I...

eMTB owners photo and ride thread.

I reckon that evolution engineered our skeletons and muscles to fit with the forces experienced when we run. So likely, any impact greater than about 15 miles an hour is beyond the kind of forces experienced in survivable incidents over the last two hundred thousand years since our species has...

    Cycle helmet (again)

Dressed up in that stuff, we could all look like aliens on Star Treck. Mind you - I bet if you'd had a crash, you'd be glad to have that on you.

    Cycle helmet (again)

I've been surprised at how many serious pelvic injuries happen at bicycle speed, but they do. These injures can lead to massive blood loss and death. Soundwave was very smashed up at a claimed 25 miles an hour.

A kind offer. Thanks, but I doubt we are anywhere near one another. I live in Northumberland.
