    Tonsheng TSDZ8 conversion kit.

I once read that over tightening the big notched nut on the BBS*** series can damage bearings in the housing. I think this would require silly amounts of tightening though. The torque wrench is your friend on things like that I suppose, though I have never used the one I bought, since 1990, when...

I liked the look of these which bolt together with bus bars and nuts. These are 6Ahr, so something like 12s2p, or 12s3p might work out well.

Review of £360 Argos E-Plus bike

In another wet road situation on that folder, I will control when the power comes on with the brake lever. Slightly depressing the brake stops the motor from coming on while not preventing pedalling. What happened was a particular set of circumstances that ended with a low speed loss of control.

Review of £360 Argos E-Plus bike

Yes but especially the instant - full on application. The BBS01 comes on slowly and is configurable. I would never add a BBS01 to this machine. I doubt I will alter any of t. It is what it is, and I knew what it was when I bought it. I am happy with what I got, even though it is, as expected...

Swollen LPF cells I googled, "Why do lfp cells swell up?" and received the following reply: "Swollen LiFePO4 batteries are the result of too much current inside a cell of the battery, which causes a build-up of heat and gas. This can be caused by overcharging, deep discharge, overheating to...

Prices of the electricity we use to charge

The answer to the question what is the meaning of life, is that there is no meaning, but you are VERY lucky to have come into being, so don't waste it, and don't complain, because you already won the biggest, hardest lottery the universe has ever seen. If any single one of your millions of...

Review of £360 Argos E-Plus bike

By the way - did you spot that post where I recounted having a low speed fall on the new folder? The road was being flooded by an open water main stand pipe - probably an inch deep in flowing water, I came into the flood from a side path by some allotments at very low speed, made a sharp turn...

    Battery Fires

Thanks for the offer Saneagle. Were those cells of a particular bad brand or are you saying that this is what they are like now? Is swelling an inherent failing of the technology, or was it a bad batch or poor manufacturer? They are big players in the power storage business and also coming in...

Review of £360 Argos E-Plus bike

Probably the same type as on my Argos folder. Noisy, but the other day when it got wet, it growled like a lion. People turned around in the street when I pulled up. The next day it was back to normal. Maybe the disk needs to get polished more before it will truly settle in. My folder has done...

    Battery Fires

Unlike some of you, I have never ridden an LFP powered bike, but I am intrigued by the idea of a system that has over a thousand charge cycles in it and can't catch fire. And yes, you'll need a heavier battery but not that heavy. I've read heard some good reports of them. Some here - years ago...

If you keep on adding tat to that bike of yours, soon it will weigh in heavier than my Argos folding bike made of girders.

    Battery Fires

271 ebike fires in the uk in 2023 and about 141,000 reported fires. A drop in the ocean, being hyped up for some reason. That said, people need to stop doing stupid things with batteries. Of course some folks just can't get enough of regulation, especially if it might reduce the competition...

Father-of-two, 52, died after falling off his bike when two cats fighting in the street cut across him and got stuck in his wheels

You should be given a 'noise asbo', like people with dogs that bark all the time, for turning a wonderful, silent bicycle into a howling machine.

Prices of the electricity we use to charge

Yes we can make ourselves into a repressive irrelevance by carrying on like the mullahs in Iran. The surpising thing is that you seem to approve of this.

You don't need to trick them. They just do it.

Cyclist fights off gang of robbers trying to steal his e-bike

Be careful when thinking about squirting anything that could be described as noxious at a person, even a robber. The firearms legislation covers stuff like that. Mace and pepper sprays are prohibited weapons as noxious substances. Check the law for yourself. This is my impression.
