Generic battery replacement for Mahle X35 system

I really liked the bike, a Orbea Gain D40. So I'm pretty fed up that the Mahle system only lasted 3 years. Although I see in the latest Cycling UK mag they state that ebike batteries only last between 3 and 5 years! Of course, what is really frustrating is the cost of replacing the battery pack...

Generic battery replacement for Mahle X35 system

Incidentally, I fitted the Swytch kit to the bike as normal per Swytch instructions and as fitted to my other bikes with the Swytch kit. Except instead of plugging the motor cable (9 pin) into the Swytch hub cable, I plugged it into the Mahle hub cable. I have another bike with the Swytch kit...

Generic battery replacement for Mahle X35 system

Thanks for that suggestion but I wouldn't know where to start with that. Also, it sounds like adding more weight to the bike. If I could have got the Swytch system to work, I would have taken out the Mahle batteries.

Generic battery replacement for Mahle X35 system

The battery on my Mahle X35 system has packed up. A Mahle replacement battery pack is too expensive. I am looking to replace the battery etc with generic kit fitted to the frame rather than in it. Any suggestions? I did connect up a Swytch kit to the Mahle hub but the motor just turns on and...

    carbon forks and hub motors?

So clearly views differ and I'd be pleased to hear from anyone who has fitted a hub motor to carbon forks and their experience. I have a Swytch kit fitted to a Boardman Hybrid with a carbon fork. It has a torque arm fitted. I think probably just because I saw Swytch offering them and thought I...

Warning; ebike batteries have short lives!

Sorry everyone. I'm new to the forum and it seems I posted inappropriately :-(

Warning; ebike batteries have short lives!

When charging the X35 battery I always charged it to full.

Warning; ebike batteries have short lives!

Ok I see now, as advised above, the Mahle X35 battery capacity is 248wh, the Swytch is 187wh. I find these fine for my rides. I think on the x35 I set the assistance for level 1 at 30% (I usually stay in level 1 unless on a really steep hill), on the Swytch I usually only engage the motor on...

Warning; ebike batteries have short lives!

The comments regarding the small battery are interesting. I always thought the Mahle X35 battery to be a decent size. 1; because I find the bike heavy, I was assuming partly due to the "large" battery, and 2; because most of my rides are about 30 miles and I only use 15 to 20% of the battery. I...

Warning; ebike batteries have short lives!

Thanks for the suggestion. However, the retail price of the battery is still £650. With regards to fitting myself, I've seen those videos, they make it look so easy. You'll notice in the videos the chainset/axle and front fork have been removed. I don't have the tools to remove and replace the...

Warning; ebike batteries have short lives!

I bought an Orbea Gain with the ebikemotion X35 system. I didn't consider at that time that I would need to replace the battery at some point. The batteries last for 10 years+, yes? No! 3 years on and the battery is kaput! I've seen recently on a forum that the life of an ebike battery is...
