Pretty sure the 250w hub will have plenty of 'OOMPH' for you. and if you do need more a dual voltage controller upgrade and a 48v battery should give you circa 30% more torque and speed, and remain within the regs (with speed cap applied)

Nobody has mentioned the new woosh rear hub kit as an alternative. That's worth a consideration

I am also considering building my first eBike for off road use, so doesnt need to be road legal so would assume the best option is the standard Yose 350W kit as it comes out of the box, or should I look at pairing the Yose 350W wheel / 36v Hailong battery with a different KT controller and Screen? I think i have seen that KT make a controller for the inbuilt hailong holder, but does these fit the same connectors etc as the Yose (Luishi) standard one? Thanks.

The 250W motor continuous rated power legislation applies off road as well, any place where the public has access.

The 350W Yose motor is faster than the 250W one but is worse at climbing hills.

I quite like the Hailong downtube battery holders with the in-built KT controller. You will need a specific KT screen, but I think the pas sensor will work.

The kt controller Julet connectors are compatible with yose-power motors, and sensors, thumb throttle, but Not the c500 display. You will need to match with a compatible KT lcd display unit to configure top speed enable pas etc.

Afaik the 350w hub gearing is more speed focused than torque focused so if intended for off rd use would be the worst of the options.

The 250w yose motor in a c700 size wheel has ample acceleration at 15.5 mph when the assistance cuts out

You do realise off road use means private land that the public has no access to. Bridleways, footpaths, cycle tracks, common land etc are not included in this description and would lead to fines, points on licence charges of no insurance etc that could have serious consequences if you do have a driving licence. If you are happy with this then best of luck. I think it is better to be informed than assuming everything is OK when it might be better just to slow down when there are people about than attract attention to what may not be legal.

So many riders just don't know the law and what off road riding really means.

Thank you for the replies, I was aware and my parents live on the Isle of Wight with access to private farmland, not theirs, but they can access it and we often ride quad bikes around it! Was thinking to build an off-road mountain bike to keep over at theirs. Will probably build a vose power std legal version to start with and then see how easy it is to upgrade components like the controller, screen etc for more speed when it can be used properly on private land. Thanks for the replies.

The others have explained it fairly well, but just to add my bit. The 350w is not more powerful than the 250w one. It just spins faster. In most cases, it doesn't have enough power to reach the maximum speed to which it can spin.

A motor is a transducer. It converts the electrical power you send to it from the controller and battery into motive power, so if you want more power, you have to send more, not get a different motor.

You should choose a motor that has a maximum speed about 1.3 times more than your expected modal riding speed, and you need to feed it with enough power to maintain your desired modal riding speed in the conditions of your rides (hills, carried mass and wind). Also, the motor needs to be able to deal with that power without getting hot and bothered.

Does anyone have a discount code for Yose Power? There are a few £10 codes from YouTubers but would rather credit this forum where possible.

What size is your rim on your bike ? I have some cheap new Bafang motors on the classified ask the guys if they would suit you with a 15 or 17 amp KT controller the YOSE stuff I have bought is ok but Bafang and KT is better I think with my Limited experience.

However I did like my 350w YOSE hub motor when I had it and it worked very well with The 15A KT and the 350W YOSE controller. On a light bike
